Today I am sharing with you photos taken two weeks ago during a Sunday outing at about 1 1/2 hours by car from home,
in the Jura massif and straddling two French departments that are the Ain and the Jura
It is the lake of Coiselet which is an artificial lake resulting from the dam of the same name
I invite you discover impressive views from the belvedere of the cliffs of Chancia ...
This 6 km long lake was formed in 1970 during the construction of the upstream dam
The signs below inform that this is an exceptional point of view to discover the birds
It's written that many species of birds fly over the Biel valley below, some nest in the nearby cliffs
and here are the birds that with a little patience we can expect to see flying over the place :
the black kite
the kestrel
the peregrine falcon
the white-bellied swift
the common raven, a massive bird the size of a buzzard
and this one explains how the flight hunt of the Peregrine Falcon takes place :
the hawk takes off abruptly at first; wings widely projected above the back
It then gains height, with a few flaps of beaten wings, regular and fast enough, to take up a position in the distance opposite the coveted prey.
After being placed high enough, it dives suddenly, its wings close to the body, stabbing towards its prey at a dizzying speed of up to 200 km / h
At the end of its course, the falcon modifies its flight and tilts on its back, paws thrown forward, to seize or violently strike its prey.
With the successful capture, the pilgrim returns, prey in the talons, towards the cliff where it will consume it after having plucked it.
However, this impressive flight hunt is only successful about once in ten.
