Le dicen LP; quizás no has oído hablar sobre su excelente talento para componer canciones o deleitar los escenarios con su voz. Me pregunto si alguna vez esa chica tímida pensó que se convertiría en una de las cantantes con más éxito en todo el mundo, tal vez no. Ahora, con el cabello enmarañado y los lentes de sol que no pueden faltar en su rostro, Laura Pergolizzi es una estrella más. La música es tan maravillosa, que nos une a todos sin que las preferencias o ideologías se interpongan. Este es uno de esos casos excepcionales.

I wonder if that shy girl ever thought she would become one of the most successful singers in the world, maybe not. Now, with matted hair and sunglasses that can't miss on her face, Laura Pergolizzi is just another star. Music is so wonderful, it brings us all together without preferences or ideologies getting in the way. This is one of those exceptional cases.

El estilo es un factor que impacta en cualquier tipo de arte, o sea, es un todo para el artista. Hablaré, sin embargo, de aquel estilo asociado a la imagen. La humanidad se deja llevar, en ocasiones, más por la imagen que por el talento. No digo que esto represente la fórmula secreta para el éxito, pero estoy casi seguro que interviene en el proceso. No creo, por otro lado, que todo debe ser plástico, superficial o extravagante: lo sencillo también suele ser atractivo. Ahora bien…
¿Cómo tiene relación esto con la música?
De niño, cada vez que oía la palabra “rockero” me imaginaba ropa negra, barbas y cabellos largos, y una actitud un poco desquiciada. Mi banda favorita Kudai, por ejemplo, tenía una apariencia gótica, tenebrosa, aunque sus canciones entonaban mensajes de luz y esperanza. ¿Extraño no?
Con el pasar del tiempo aprendí que el estilo y la imagen pueden ser diferentes, y que un músico no se debe juzgar sin siquiera conocer su música y su trayectoria. Digo esto porque Laura Pergolizzi me ayudó a entender tantas cosas sobre los prejuicios en el arte musical. Si bien es una mujer aislada de estos conflictos, su estilo fresco y su imagen confiada son ejemplos de que el talento, venga de quien venga, siempre tendrá un lugar en el mundo.
Style is a factor that has an impact on any type of art, that is, it is a whole for the artist. I will speak, however, of that style associated with the image. Mankind is sometimes driven more by image than by talent. I am not saying that this represents the secret formula for success, but I am almost certain that it intervenes in the process. On the other hand, I don't believe that everything should be plastic, superficial or extravagant: simplicity is also often attractive. Now then...
How does this relate to music?
As a kid, every time I heard the word "rocker" I imagined black clothes, beards and long hair, and a slightly unhinged attitude. My favorite band Kudai, for example, had a gothic, dark appearance, although their songs sang messages of light and hope. Strange, isn't it?
As time went by I learned that style and image can be different, and that a musician should not be judged without even knowing his or her music and trajectory. I say this because Laura Pergolizzi helped me understand so many things about prejudice in the art of music. While she is a woman insulated from these conflicts, her fresh style and confident image are examples that talent, whoever it comes from, will always have a place in the world.

Sin talento, la imagen es algo vacío. Supongo que algunos cantantes imprimen algo de su personalidad dentro de su música, y esto es lo que los hace originales. Aquí el estilo visual y el estilo artístico pueden danzar en un mismo son, sin que uno sobrepase al otro. En ocasiones noto que la industria musical apuesta más a lo superficial, y esto es lo que puede influir en las personas al momento de elegir que escuchar y que no. Sin embargo, no creo que esto lo defina todo.
Laura Pergolizzi es una mujer abiertamente homosexual, de hecho, cuando vi un video musical de una de sus canciones más famosas pensé, a priori, que ella era un hombre, XD. Es algo gracioso porque la misma LP ha hecho mención a esto, siendo algo de gracia para ella. Si la ves, antes de escucharla, quizás tengas una percepción diferente de lo que es su música. Más allá de sus preferencias, estilo o imagen, LP desborda mucho carisma. Incluso en sus piezas musicales se oye la tonada de sus silbidos… ese elemento tan característico la hace diferente.
Oí una de sus canciones gracias a la aleatoriedad de YT Music; se trata de Lost On You, una canción para desenamorados. La suelo escuchar, no por desamor, sino por ese menaje de “redención” que desborda la letra. Hay que disfrutar del momento, como entona LP, elevar copas y celebrar incluso hasta por lo que se ha perdido… Nótese los silbidos… nótese los silbidos, XD.
Without talent, the image is empty. I suppose that some singers imprint some of their personality into their music, and this is what makes them original. Here the visual style and the artistic style can dance in the same son, without one surpassing the other. Sometimes I notice that the music industry bets more on the superficial, and this is what can influence people when choosing what to listen to and what not to listen to. However, I don't think this defines everything.
Laura Pergolizzi is an openly homosexual woman, in fact, when I saw a music video of one of her most famous songs I thought, a priori, that she was a man, XD. It's kind of funny because LP herself has made mention of this, being kind of funny to her. If you see her, before listening to her, you might have a different perception of what her music is. Beyond her preferences, style or image, LP exudes a lot of charisma. Even in her musical pieces you can hear the tune of her whistles... that characteristic element makes her different.
I heard one of her songs thanks to the randomness of YT Music; it is Lost On You, a song for the loveless. I usually listen to it, not because of the lack of love, but because of that "redemption" message that overflows the lyrics. You have to enjoy the moment, as LP intones, raise glasses and celebrate even for what you've lost... Note the whistles... note the whistles, XD.
La voz de LP es… uf, una fuente de belleza, literalmente. Lo que más me gusta de ella, además del carisma, es esa naturalidad que tiene para cantar o representar ese lado seductor en sus videos musicales. Puede que en el aspecto visual su imagen haga algo de ruido, pero vamos, la música es música, aunque tus pantalones sean muy holgados, XD. Algunos cantantes son más detallistas con su vestimenta o forma de ser, otros solo quieren cantar para el mundo sin tantas extravagancias.
¿Quién tiene más éxito?
Esto es lo difícil. Nadie olvida los vestidos raros de Lady Gaga, o la manera tan peculiar con la que solía maquillarse los integrantes de la banda Kiss…
LP's voice is... uf, a source of beauty, literally. What I like most about her, besides her charisma, is that naturalness she has to sing or represent that seductive side in her music videos. Maybe in the visual aspect her image makes some noise, but come on, music is music, even if your pants are too baggy, XD. Some singers are more detailed with their clothing or way of being, others just want to sing for the world without so many extravagances.
Who is more successful?
That's the hard part. Nobody forgets Lady Gaga's weird dresses, or the peculiar way the members of the band Kiss used to put their make-up on...

Siempre y cuando conectes con las masas y sepas como desenvolverte, todo irá bien. LP es una muestra de ello, y no estoy diciendo que su estilo sea descabellado; ella solo desea matizar su talento musical, e independientemente de cómo lo haga, su manera de transmitir música es lo que termina ganándose a los corazones.
As long as you connect with the masses and know how to perform, everything will be fine. LP is a sample of that, and I'm not saying her style is outlandish; she just wants to nuance her musical talent, and regardless of how she does it, her way of conveying music is what ends up winning hearts.
LP es compositora, y tiene una gran trayectoria en el mundo musical. Lo extraño es que yo no la conocía, o sea, sí había oído algunas de sus canciones, pero fue hace poco que decidí indagar más sobre ella. He ido añadiendo varias de sus piezas musicales a mis playlists, aunque además de Lost On You me gusta mucho “Tightrope”, otro de sus mejores éxitos. Esa voz imponente y algo ronca (quizás exagero) le levanta los ánimos a cualquier ser humano, jajaja. Esta canción habla de andar en la cuerda floja… en algún momento nos toca caminar sobre ella, pero vale, así es la vida. Lo bueno es que siempre sobrevivimos.

LP is a composer, and has a great trajectory in the musical world. The strange thing is that I didn't know her, that is, I had heard some of her songs, but it was only recently that I decided to find out more about her. I have been adding several of her musical pieces to my playlists, although besides Lost On You I really like "Tightrope", another of her best hits. That imposing and somewhat hoarse voice (maybe I'm exaggerating) lifts the spirits of any human being, hahaha. This song talks about walking on a tightrope... at some point we have to walk on it, but ok, that's life. The good thing is that we always survive.
