two disco cover songs for tuesday

this week lets take another stroll through the disco section and find a couple of disco versions of popular songs....this time, i give you WITCH QUEEN, with the very "goth" record cover and a late-era thelma houston doing a version of '96 tears'

WITCH QUEEN
1979

on this record they do "bang a gong" and "all right now"...and maybe another cover song i dont recognize (got the time) and presumedly an original song (witch queen). i throw this one on every once in a while at a party or something...how often do you get to to hear TREX disco renditions?? i m 0 for 2 on this one because i was thinking that song was todd rundgren and all right now was boston (but it Is FREE). Classic rock was never my forte

THELMA HOUSTON
"96 tears"
1981

at least i didnt have to look up who did this one originally (question mark and the mysterians). decent late-to-the-party 1981 disco rendition. thelma had a pretty long career, her 1st single was in 1966! one cant help but wonder what these r and b / soul singers really thought of disco when it first came/took over-and of course, faded. its also fascinating to me how much music changed from 1966 to 1981....and how STALE pop music has become the last 20 years (i know im a grumpy music critic)

i hope you liked my post!
