TTT - A Slave To Money and Then You Die

Hello Hive Music Lovers!,

Welcome to another #threetunetuesday created originally by @ablaze.

This week we listen to probably one of the most popular and best songs of all time as I pick 3 tunes from the mighty The Verve.

But first, for those unfamiliar with TTT or Three Tune Tuesday.... to quote @ablaze :

The jist is as follows
Every Tuesday I'm going to share 3 songs which I like to listen to and I invite your feedback in the comments below. Better still, why not have a blast of your own Three Tune Tuesday and mention me in the post and I'll come and find the post and upvote it. If you could also use #threetunetuesday tag that would be great, as that is what I use when sifting through all the entries every Wednesday. It'll be a sweet way for us all to discover new music. You'll also be in with a chance of winning the prize.

The first song from the legendary and awesome Richard Ashcroft at his best is Bitter Sweet Symphony. This is a hugely popular song and for good reason I think. Here at Glasto in 2008 I think he makes the best live performance that I have seen him make of it. I think he was on fire this year.

I like how we can relate to the lyrics and that they have some meaning that many songs these days don't have. Life is a struggle and if you have ever worked for a boss that you have despised, then you know how that feels. It does feel that we are slave to money and then we die.

I have luckily had mostly good bosses, but have had a few who have been a nightmare and the thought of work on a Monday morning was a killing me and I would prefer to have gone oh fuck it!! Although I have done that with a few jobs when I was younger, there were a few times I couldn't just do that so easily.

I have seen in an interview, it could have been an old one at sometime that Richard had released a new album and I saw in the interview he was asked, why now? Why release the album now? His answer was, because its ready.

I think my next pick would be Lucky Man that you can see was another great live performance that he did at Glasto that same year. I think he really peaked in 2008.

Going from A Slave To Money and Then You Die to being a Lucky Man. I think this song has an Oasis sound to it and really shows The Verve to be one of the all time greats. It particularly reminds me of The Masterplan by Oasis.

The final tune is also a live performance from Glasto in 2008 - The Drugs Don't Work. A pretty emotional performance which just somehow stays with you.

Do the meaning of the lyrics mean for someone getting a treatment but the drugs are not working or that someone who has been taking a lot of party drugs and now cannot get the same effect anymore?

Whatever the meaning, it is a cracking tune. When thinking of Richard Ashcroft, you may always think of him with his trademark long hair and glasses style. You can see him with his hair short like in some of his more recent songs here.

That wraps up my #ttt for this week. What have you been listening to?
