Lady Gaga para mí ha sido más que una simple cantante o artista, ella con su música me ha acompañado en los momentos más difíciles de mi vida y, se podría decir que, yo estoy aquí hoy en día escribiendo estás palabras gracias a ella; desde su primera era The Fame hasta la actualidad, su arte me ha inspirado y motivado a seguir mis sueños sin importar que el mundo se interponga, tanta es mi admiración que mi nombre artístico, Lady Unicorn, nació de ella.
Después de casi 5 años de ausencia musical, sin contar el disco junto a Tony Bennett, hoy Gaga regresa a la música con un álbum al que ella misma denominó LG6.5 debido a que no es el álbum oficial, o sea el LG7, porque este está compuesto mayormente por covers de algunas clásicos de la música con algunos arreglos para darle un toque único lleno de matices y un par de canciones originales. El álbum lleva por nombre Harlequin haciendo alusión a su personaje de Harley Quinn en la película Joker: Folie à Deux del cual es el soundtrack original.
Aunque Harlequin me encantó de principio a fin, hay alguna canciones que se volvieron mis favoritas desde que las escuché la primera vez, por eso quise hacer este top sobre este nuevo álbum de Lady Gaga dejando mi favorita para el final.
Lady Gaga for me has been more than just a singer or artist, she has accompanied me with her music in the most difficult moments of my life and, you could say that, I am here today writing these words thanks to her; since her first era The Fame until today, her art has inspired and motivated me to follow my dreams no matter what the world gets in the way, so much is my admiration that my artistic name, Lady Unicorn, was born from her.
After almost 5 years of musical absence, not counting the album with Tony Bennett, today Gaga returns to music with an album that she herself called LG6.5 because it is not the official album, that is LG7, because this is composed mostly of covers of some classics of music with some arrangements to give it a unique touch full of nuances and a couple of original songs. The album is named Harlequin alluding to his Harley Quinn character in the movie Joker: Folie à Deux of which it is the original soundtrack.
Although I loved Harlequin from beginning to end, there are some songs that became my favorites since I heard them the first time, that's why I wanted to make this top on this new Lady Gaga's album leaving my favorite for the end.
World On A String
Ya conocía la versión original de esta canción debido a que es de el gran Frank Sinatra pero aunque es un clásico, debo admitir que este nuevo estilo que le dio Gaga me encanta; en parte siento que la modernizó bastante sin perjudicar su esencia, la melodía nueva y la voz de Gaga fuerte pero gentil le da un toque único a la pieza.
Esta es una canción que describe demasiado bien el cómo uno se puede sentir estando enamorado, creyéndote poderoso e imparable, tanto que sientes que puedes controlar el clima, el mundo tan fácil y tan rápido como chasquear tus dedos; aunque su versión original es una jazz y este género es mucho más movido y lleno de energía que una balada, esta versión no se siente floja sino todo lo contrario, está llena de poder, energía e incluso se sienten esos matices oscuros que te dan a entender que esto no es un cuento de hadas, es una fantasía oscura desde la perspectiva del villano.
I already knew the original version of this song because it is by the great Frank Sinatra but although it is a classic, I must admit that I love this new style that Gaga gave it; in part I feel that she modernized it quite a bit without damaging its essence, the new melody and Gaga's strong but gentle voice gives a unique touch to the piece.
This is a song that describes too well how one can feel being in love, believing yourself powerful and unstoppable, so much that you feel you can control the weather, the world as easy and as fast as snapping your fingers; although its original version is a jazz and this genre is much more moving and full of energy than a ballad, this version does not feel lazy but on the contrary, it is full of power, energy and even feel those dark nuances that give you to understand that this is not a fairy tale, it is a dark fantasy from the perspective of the villain.
If My Friends Could See Me Now
Admito que esta canción no la conocía, investigué su versión original y, aunque fue un poco complicado debido a las múltiples versiones que le han hecho, tengo entendido que es de Sweet Charity; esta versión es un jazz muy al estilo Marilyn Monroe, o por lo menos yo lo considero así, lleno de una energía muy coqueta y jovial.
Esta versión que Gaga nos entrega empieza bastante lento, mucho más que la original dándonos la sensación de ser otra balada pero luego de un solo de batería bastante explosivo nos entrega un Jazz que nos teletransporta a los años 50 dónde la forma de bailar era sumamente característica, no creo que tengo que describirlo mucho porque ya deben saber a lo que me refiero; amo demasiado la energía que transmite esta canción porque es una invitación genuina a bailar sin importar nada, sinceramente siento que esto es una versión sumamente mejorada que la original porque se siente lo mucho que Gaga se divirtió grabándola.
I admit that I did not know this song, I researched its original version and, although it was a little complicated due to the multiple versions that have been made, I understand that it is from Sweet Charity; this version is a very Marilyn Monroe style jazz, or at least I consider it so, full of a very flirtatious and jovial energy.
This version that Gaga gives us starts quite slow, much more than the original giving us the feeling of being another ballad but after a quite explosive drum solo gives us a Jazz that teleports us to the 50's where the way of dancing was very characteristic, I don't think I have to describe it much because you must already know what I mean; I love the energy that this song transmits because it is a genuine invitation to dance no matter what, I sincerely feel that this is a much improved version than the original because you can feel how much fun Gaga had recording it.
Close To You
Esta canción sí la conocía muy bien debido a que mi hermana es una gran fan de The Carpenters, aunque yo no crea mucho en las casualidades, Close To You es una de mis canciones favoritas de dicha agrupación y escucharla desde la voz del artista que más admiro en toda mi vida fue cómo un regalo.
En este cover no hubo tantas modificaciones, es bastante parecida a la original con la diferencia que esta es más Jazz que balada; lo que me hizo amar tanto esta versión es la voz de Gaga porque es sumamente suave al principio, es como si fuese una canción de cuna que le cantas a tus hijos para hacerlos dormir. La canción empieza lento y suave pero va subiendo en intensidad sin llegar a lo explosivo, considero que se jugo demasiado bien con la fuerza de la canción como con la voz de Gaga dando un resultado increíble.
I knew this song very well because my sister is a big fan of The Carpenters, although I don't believe much in coincidences, Close To You is one of my favorite songs of this group and to hear it from the voice of the artist I admire most in my life was like a gift.
In this cover there were not so many modifications, it is quite similar to the original with the difference that this one is more Jazz than ballad; what made me love this version so much is Gaga's voice because it is very soft at the beginning, it is as if it was a lullaby that you sing to your children to make them sleep. The song starts slow and soft but it goes up in intensity without getting explosive, I think it played too well with the strength of the song and Gaga's voice giving an incredible result.
Happy Mistake
Esta es una de las canciones originales que vamos a encontrar en este álbum y, casualmente, fue la primera canción que me flechó debido a que escuché el álbum de atrás hacia adelante y esta es la penúltima canción. Para entender porque me encantó tanto esta canción necesito que visualicen mi contexto:
Últimamente he pasado por unas situaciones emocionales complicadas en las que me he tenido que replantear quién soy, qué quiero ser y qué camino debo tomar; esto me ha hundido en un espiral de tristeza del cuál ha sido muy difícil salir. Este álbum salió hoy a la media noche, todos estos problemas emocionales me han tenido en insomnio tras insomnio y escuchar esta melodía tan suave y la voz de Gaga como un susurro desgarrador a tu oído se sintió como un abrazo que te dice que todo esta bien, fue la perfecta compañía para una de las tantas noches largas y llenas de lagrimas que he tenido este mes.
La letra de esta canción solo refuerza ese sentir, la presión que se siente día a día por ser alguien que ni siquiera tú misma sabes si quieres ser pero no hay tiempo para replantearse quien eres porque "the show must go on"; no sé cuántas veces repetí esta canción antes de pasar a escuchar las demás del álbum y, ahora que lo escucho en orden, siento que es una perfecta canción para ir cerrando un pequeño pero intenso viaje que nos ofrece Harlequin
This is one of the original songs that we are going to find on this album and, coincidentally, it was the first song that I was smitten with because I listened to the album from back to front and this is the penultimate song. To understand why I loved this song so much I need you to visualize my context:
I've been going through some complicated emotional situations lately where I've had to rethink who I am, what I want to be and what path I should take; this has plunged me into a spiral of sadness which has been very difficult to get out of. This album came out today at midnight, all these emotional problems have kept me in sleeplessness after sleeplessness and hearing this soft melody and Gaga's voice as a heartbreaking whisper in your ear felt like a hug that tells you that everything is ok, it was the perfect companion for one of the many long and tearful nights I've had this month.
The lyrics of this song only reinforce that feeling, the pressure you feel day by day to be someone you don't even know yourself if you want to be but there is no time to rethink who you are because “the show must go on”; I don't know how many times I repeated this song before going on to listen to the others on the album and, now that I listen to it in order, I feel it is a perfect song to close a small but intense journey that Harlequin offers us.
Smile
Esta y la que cierra este top son mis dos canciones favoritas de todo el álbum, Smile es una canción que ya conocía desde hace mucho, de hecho es un clásico de Nat King Cole.
Esta versión en un Jazz sumamente lento casi rayando en un vals fue como cruzar los cielos en una nube esponjosa y ver las distintas ciudades del mundo de noche, como brillan, su clima, su vida; también se siente como estar en los brazos de esa persona que amas y bailar tan lento que pareciera que estuviesen quietos, disfrutando del calor y la compañía del otro mientras sus latidos se sincronizan y, solo por ese instante, el tiempo deja de existir.
Ya sé que lo he dicho mucho pero, sin dudas, prefiero esta versión que la original; ya ni siquiera es por un tema de fanatismo sino por lo que me genera y me hace sentir está versión. Es como si te pusieras por un momento los lentes del amor y pausaras el tiempo para disfrutar la vida tal cuál es.
This and the one that closes this top are my two favorite songs of the whole album, Smile is a song that I already knew for a long time, in fact it is a Nat King Cole classic.
This version in an extremely slow Jazz almost bordering on a waltz was like crossing the skies in a fluffy cloud and seeing the different cities of the world at night, how they shine, their weather, their life; it also feels like being in the arms of that person you love and dancing so slowly that it seems as if you were still, enjoying each other's warmth and company while your heartbeats synchronize and, just for that instant, time ceases to exist.
I know I've said it a lot but, without a doubt, I prefer this version to the original; it's not even a matter of fanaticism but because of what this version generates and makes me feel. It's as if you put on the love glasses for a moment and pause time to enjoy life as it is.
Folie à Deux
Y para cerrar este top de mis canciones favoritas de Harlequin, dejé este increíble vals al estilo del clásico Disney Princesas; la primera vez que lo escuché pensé que me había equivocado en la canción porque desentona tanto de las demás canciones que no entendía qué estaba escuchando y pensé que había puesto mi lista de reproducción de los clásicos de Disney pero para mi sorpresa es parte de esta obra de arte que nos entregó Lady Gaga.
Nunca imagine escuchar a Gaga cantar un vals y eso que ella es la reina de la innovación, por algo la llaman el camaleón de la industria musical porque no se limita a nada; la melodía, el tipo de música y la voz tan angelical pero sumamente potente de Gaga hacen que esta canción original sea una obra de arte de principio a fin, sencillamente es increíble y si tuviese 14 años, sin dudas este hubiese sido mi vals de mis 15 años.
Como persona que creció con las películas de princesas, soñando con encontrar a su príncipe azul de las formas más mágicas que uno se pueda imaginar, esta canción fue un abrazo a esa niña que pasaba horas y horas frente al televisor viendo La Sirenita y La Bella Durmiente deseando vivir una de esas historias de amor.
And to close this top of my favorite Harlequin songs, I left this incredible waltz in the style of the classic Disney Princesses; the first time I heard it I thought I had made a mistake in the song because it was so out of tune with the other songs that I did not understand what I was listening to and I thought I had put my playlist of Disney classics but to my surprise it is part of this work of art that Lady Gaga gave us.
I never imagined hearing Gaga sing a waltz and she is the queen of innovation, that's why they call her the chameleon of the music industry because she does not limit herself to anything; the melody, the type of music and the angelic but extremely powerful voice of Gaga make this original song a work of art from beginning to end, it is simply amazing and if I was 14 years old, no doubt this would have been my waltz of my 15 years.
As a person who grew up with princess movies, dreaming of finding her prince charming in the most magical ways one can imagine, this song was a hug to that little girl who spent hours and hours in front of the TV watching The Little Mermaid and Sleeping Beauty wishing to live one of those love stories.
Bonus: The Joker
Aunque esta canción no entra entre mis favoritas, sí me gustó mucho como para dejarla por fuera, aunque realmente la quiero traer a la mesa no por la letra, por el ritmo ni nada parecido sino por LA VOZ DE LADY GAGA; para los que somos Little Monster no nos sorprende para nada su rango vocal ni su potencia pero eso no evita que nos quedemos encantados cada vez que escuchamos su fuerza en cualquiera sea el estilo que este interpretando, de verdad que elegí demasiado bien a quien admirar.
A lo largo de los años Lady Gaga a trabajado su voz, mejorándola y perfeccionándola entregándonos potencia como en Bang Bang, Shallow o su más reciente colaboración con Bruno Mars, Die With A Smile pero, a su vez, delicadeza como en Joanne, Is That Alright?, entre otras muchas; dandonos la oportunidad de poder escucharla en cualquier género sea pop, jazz, balada, incluso rock.
Although this song is not among my favorites, I did like it too much to leave it out, although I really want to bring it to the table not because of the lyrics, the rhythm or anything like that but because of LADY GAGA'S VOICE; for those of us who are Little Monster we are not surprised at all by her vocal range or her power but that doesn't prevent us from being delighted every time we listen to her strength in whatever style she is performing, I really chose too well who to admire.
Over the years Lady Gaga has worked on her voice, improving and perfecting it, giving us power as in Bang Bang, Shallow or her most recent collaboration with Bruno Mars, Die With A Smile but, at the same time, delicacy as in Joanne, Is That Alright?, among many others; giving us the opportunity to listen to her in any genre be it pop, jazz, ballad, even rock.
De verdad que este disco me encantó y considero que es un buen abre boca para lo que sea que nos vaya a entregar es en esta nueva era de LG7, donde las especulaciones no se han dado a desear y mis expectativas como ilusiones de escuchar de nuevo a esa antigua Gaga de Born This Way o ARTPOP cada vez es más presente.
