I have always loved music, in all its forms and styles, however, every time someone asks me, for you, what has been the best album of all? Although many possible answers cross my mind, there is always a fixed image in the picture of a crab. Of course, it is very difficult to give a single answer to such a question. Any connoisseur can think of the Beatles of the 60s, Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson, Metallica, Queen or the mega band U2, who boast some of the greatest albums in history and are true giants, among many others.
But this is something that, in my opinion, goes beyond that, it was a phenomenon that broke the mould and has also broken the timeline, due to its permanence and its use in various activities.

Me refiero, por supuesto, al disco The Fat Of Land del grupo Inglés The Prodigy, toda una obra maestra de la evolución de la música electrónica a gran escala.
Su lanzamiento data de junio de 1.997, es decir, ya casi cumplirá 24 años que esta impresionante producción salió al mundo musical y su impacto aún resuena en los rincones más alejados del planeta.
No había una fiesta donde no sonara una de las canciones de este gran disco y era la locura total, efervescencia pública en su estado más puro, recuerdo hacer leído en esa prodigiosa década de los 90, sobre las famosas fiestas Rave y precisamente de esas juergas se dio la génesis de la movida electrónica y el surgimiento de nuevos ritmos que buscaban satisfacer la libido desbocada de aquella generación. Hoy en día hay muchas personas adultas afirman que todavía disfrutan al escuchar las canciones de este disco, que en realidad ha pasado a la historia como uno de los más exitosos de banda alguna, con lo que podemos afirmar que sigue rompiendo barreras.

I refer, of course, to the album The Fat Of Land by the English group The Prodigy, a masterpiece in the evolution of electronic music on a grand scale.
Its release dates back to June 1997, that is to say, it is almost 24 years since this impressive production was released to the musical world and its impact still resonates in the furthest corners of the planet.
There wasn't a party where one of the songs from this great album didn't play and it was total madness, public effervescence in its purest state. I remember reading about the famous Rave parties in that prodigious decade of the 90s, and it was precisely from those parties that the genesis of the electronic movement took place and the emergence of new rhythms that sought to satisfy the unbridled libido of that generation. Today there are many adults who say that they still enjoy listening to the songs on this album, which has gone down in history as one of the most successful albums by any band, which means that it continues to break barriers.

Su tema inicial y bandera flamante, “Smack my Bitch Up”, aquel histórico que donde suena aún causa revuelo y el éxtasis de los presentes, acompañado de aquel polémico video, tan criticado por muchos, tan aclamado por otros. Ha sido utilizado en las escenas de acción de varias películas de Hollywood y las producciones que le acompañan en el disco tales como “Firesater”, “Serial Thrilla” y “Diesel Power”, han sonado en diversos eventos deportivos de X games y video juegos. Ni hablar cuando un tema de estos suena en algún concierto de música electrónica “La locura”.
Recuerdo claramente cuando compré el disco compacto, en un kiosco donde solamente vendían música anglo, cuando pregunté al vendedor, un tipo de esos lleno de tatuajes, piercing y actitud de sobrado, este se sobresaltó de su asiento y me colocó el sonido, jajaja, recuerdo haberle dicho: ya lo escuché amigo, solo véndemelo, a lo que el chamo me respondió, ¡hey te estas llevando el mejor disco que tengo en la tienda! Jajaja. Desde aquel día, lo he conservado conmigo, lo sacaba para colocarlo en el reproductor y al terminar, lo guardaba nuevamente, jamás se lo presté a nadie y cuando nos reuníamos a escuchar música en casa de alguno de los amigos, lo llevé conmigo una vez (cada quien llevaba un disco para oírlo y compartir información musical), en esas fiestas particulares a nuestro estilo, los panas llevaban sus cd’s , todos escuchábamos estilos parecidos, recuerdo que sobre la mesa estaban los discos de Korn, Audioslave, Creed, Radiohead, Collective Soul, entre otros y llegó mi turno, al colocarla les dije: Epa, Escuchen esto a ver qué les parece, Pista # 1 “Smack my Bitch Up”, subí el volumen al máximo nivel mientras todos se miraban las caras, ¿Qué es eso, Electrónica o Rock? Les dije que era una combinación de ambos, pero incluía otros sonidos más. Fue una gran fiesta a nuestro estilo y en las siguientes reuniones, me recordaban llevar mi disco. Estamos hablando del año 1.998, no había aun el internet, ni teléfonos celulares jajaja. La información se obtenía de las revistas y la radio.

I remember clearly when I bought the CD, in a kiosk where they only sold Anglo music, when I asked the seller, a guy full of tattoos, piercing and attitude of sober, he was startled from his seat and put me the sound, hahaha, I remember telling him: I heard it friend, just sell it to me, to which the guy replied, hey you're taking the best record I have in the shop! Hahaha. Since that day, I have kept it with me, I took it out to put it in the player and when I finished, I kept it again, I never lent it to anyone and when we got together to listen to music at a friend's house, I took it with me once (each one of us took a record to listen to it and share musical information), I remember that on the table were the records of Korn, Audioslave, Creed, Radiohead, Collective Soul, among others, and it was my turn, when I put it on the table I said to them: Hey, listen to this and see what you think, Track #1 "Smack my Bitch Up", I turned the volume up to the maximum level while everyone looked at each other's faces, what is that, Electronic or Rock? I told them it was a combination of both, but included other sounds as well. It was a great party in our style and in the following meetings, they reminded me to bring my record. Recuerdo un artículo dedicado al grupo The Prodigy, en una revista semanal, donde se afirmaba que el tipo psicodélico llamado Keith Flint podía engullir a Marilyn Manson (en sus mejores momentos) de un solo bocado, sin despeinarse jajaja. Hablando del espectáculo en vivo y la fuerza en el escenario. Solo que la banda de Manson, contaba con un mayor marketing sobre los británicos, pero se trataba solamente de un elemento comercial porque en Europa, el público ni siquiera tenía dudas sobre eso. Otra mención destacada, era sobre los videos del grupo, donde sus integrantes hacían gala de su talento y presencia.

I remember an article dedicated to the band The Prodigy, in a weekly magazine, where it was stated that the psychedelic guy called Keith Flint could gobble up Marilyn Manson (in his prime) in one bite, without batting an eyelid hahaha. La mente maestra de toda esta parafernalia era el sobresaliente talento de Liam Howlet, artista creador de toda aquella mezcla de sonidos, que dieron cuerpo a la música característica de The Prodigy, fue su compositor y modesto motor. Le acompañaba el músico y también Rapero Maxim Reality, el bailarín, Dj y tecladista Leeroy Thornhill y el estrafalario bailarín y cantante Keith Flint, fallecido en 2.019.
Todo un compendio de talentos que se fusionaron en un ritmo que la banda denominó Electronic Punk y que sencillamente hizo historia.

Hoy viernes, rindo homenaje a la banda que en la década de los 90 revolucionó el mundo de la música electrónica y que hoy suena mejor que ayer. Siempre fueron polémicos, siempre dieron todo sobre el escenario, siempre fueron auténticos, The Prodigy siguen presentes porque jamás pierden su contemporaneidad.

The mastermind of all this paraphernalia was the outstanding talent of Liam Howlet, the artist who created the mix of sounds that gave shape to The Prodigy's signature music, was its composer and modest driving force. He was accompanied by the musician and rapper Maxim Reality, the dancer, DJ and keyboardist Leeroy Thornhill and the quirky dancer and singer Keith Flint, who died in 2019.
A whole compendium of talents that merged into a rhythm that the band called Electronic Punk and that simply made history.

Today, Friday, I pay tribute to the band that revolutionised the world of electronic music in the 90s and that sounds better today than it did yesterday. They were always controversial, they always gave their all on stage, they were always authentic, The Prodigy are still present because they never lose their contemporaneity.
