Esta semana, al leer las declaraciones de Martin Scorsese en el festival de Cannes reflexionando sobre el tiempo (tema de la semana pasada) y su propia vejez, quise hacer una selección sobre este último tópico.
Es que Scorsese, uno de los mejores directores vivos de la actualidad –según la humilde opinión de este servidor que escribe-, ofreció unas declaraciones de prensa durante la previa a la presentación de su nueva película Killers of the flower moon, donde hablo de su futuro como cineasta.
Parafraseando sus palabras, Scorsese admitió en instancias de la semana pasada que a pesar de tener “el fuego” para seguir contando historias en el cine, desafortunadamente es ya muy tarde para él a los 80 años de edad.
Así que tome esta inspiración para unirme otra vez a la iniciativa creada por @ablaze, en lo que será el #ThreeTuneTuesday de hoy, para escoger tres canciones que reflexionan sobre el pasar de los años en este planeta atribulado.
Se trata de Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, Bob Dylan con The Band, y Aerosmith, tres artistas –bandas- estadounidenses, quienes nos dieron tres temas en la época dorada de principio de los 70s que hablan sobre el hombre y su devenir en la tierra con tres perspectivas distintas.
El primer tema de esta semana, compuesto e interpretado por Stephen Stills, cuenta la historia triste de un hombre nacido en la pobreza que, al encontrarse solo (y todavía pobre) en su vejez, desea que la muerte lo encuentre pronto.
La canción, que viene incluida en su álbum Deja Vu de 1970, representa la frustración de un hombre común que siente no haber logrado nada en su vida.
Esta segunda selección se trata de una canción de Bob Dylan concebida como una canción de cuna para su hijo mayor. En ella se retrata la maduración de un hombre que, al hacerse padre, ansía que su hijo se mantenga fuerte y feliz durante su vida.
Este tema viene incluido en el álbum Planet Waves de 1974, cuando Dylan ya había conformado una familia luego de su retiro de los escenarios producto de un accidente motociclístico.
Para unir la inspiración de este Three Tune Tuesday con la canción, he seleccionado la versión en vivo ejecutada por Bob Dylan junto a The Band en su gira de despedida. Martin Scorsese capturó este momento como parte del inmenso documental llamado The Last Waltz en 1978.
En el clip se incluye un extra con la canción Baby let me follow yo down.
Para irnos con un tema inspiracional, escogí este tercer track del álbum debut de Aerosmith de 1973. Se trata de Dream On, una canción escrita por Steven Tyler durante su adolescencia, que reflexiona sobre el pasar del tiempo y la necesidad de no abandonar los sueños.
Es un himno a la perseverancia de hacer lo que sea necesario para lograrlo.

This week, reading Martin Scorsese's statements at the Cannes Film Festival reflecting on time (last week's topic) and his own old age, I wanted to make a selection on the latter topic.
Scorsese, one of the best directors alive today -according to the humble opinion of this writer-, offered some press statements during the preview of the presentation of his new film Killers of the flower moon, where he talked about his future as a filmmaker.
Paraphrasing his words, Scorsese admitted in instances of last week that although he has "the fire" to continue telling stories on film, unfortunately it's too late for him at 80 years of age.
So I take this inspiration to once again join the initiative created by @ablaze, in what will be today's #ThreeTuneTuesday, to pick three songs that reflect on the passing of the years on this troubled planet.
These are Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, Bob Dylan with The Band, and Aerosmith, three American artists - bands - who gave us three songs in the golden age of the early 70s that talk about man and his future on earth from three different perspectives.
This week's first track, composed and performed by Stephen Stills, tells the sad story of a man born into poverty who, finding himself alone (and still poor) in his old age, wishes that death would find him soon.
The song, which is included on his 1970 album Deja Vu, represents the frustration of an ordinary man who feels he has achieved nothing in his life.

This second selection is a Bob Dylan song conceived as a lullaby for his eldest son. It portrays the maturation of a man who, as he becomes a father, longs for his son to remain strong and happy throughout his life.
This song is included in the 1974 album Planet Waves, when Dylan had already formed a family after his retirement from the stage due to a motorcycle accident.
To link the inspiration for this Three Tune Tuesday with the song, I have selected the live version performed by Bob Dylan with The Band on his farewell tour. Martin Scorsese captured this moment as part of the immense documentary The Last Waltz in 1978.
The clip includes an extra with the song Baby let me follow me down.
To say goodbye with an inspirational song, I chose this third track from Aerosmith's 1973 debut album. It's Dream On, a song written by Steven Tyler during his teenage years, which reflects on the passing of time and the need to never give up on dreams.
