Due to personal reasons related to my mental health, I've been somewhat absent from the platform. However, now re-energized, I'm back to talk about a Korean hidden gem that came out on february: To See the Next Part of the Dream.
Parannoul es un artista de Seoul, Corea, el cual pertenece al género Shoegaze.
Tristemente no hay mucha información al respecto de este artista, puesto que siempre ha buscado ocultar su nombre, imagen, edad, y cualquier tipo de información personal. Sin embargo, este disco, se siente como una de las obras más personales que han salido en el año.
To See the Next Part of the Dream es una oda a la adolescencia. Un viaje al pasado donde se revisitan recuerdos a ratos dolorosos, y a ratos conflictivos.
Parannoul dijo en la descripción del álbum en Bandcamp que este disco eran ganas de cumplir un sueño un tanto infantil de "Ser una estrella de rock", lo que da a entender el nombre del mismo, y muchas de sus canciones, abriendo, precisamente, con Beautiful World.
Parannoul is an artist from Seoul, Korea, who belongs to the Shoegaze genre.
Sadly there is not much information about this artist, as he has always sought to hide his name, image, age, and any personal information. This album, however, feels like one of the most personal works to come out this year.
To See the Next Part of the Dream is an ode to adolescence. A journey into the past where memories are revisited at times painful, and at times conflicting.
Parannoul said in the description of the album on Bandcamp that this album was a desire to fulfill a somewhat childish dream of "Being a rock star", which hints at the name of the album, and many of its songs, opening, precisely, with Beautiful World.
La canción tan solo al empezar es una visita al pasado para muchos, al usar un sample de Lily Chou Chou.
Muchos de los que escuchen esta canción dirán que les recuerda a canción de anime, y considero eso una parte muy importante del disco. Parannoul está combinando partes de su adolescencia con los elementos musicales que le gustan en la actualidad: pedales exagerados, la voz hundida entre tanta reverb, y demás.
Esta canción posee un fuerte mensaje de desprecio a uno mismo, cosa que muchas personas hemos vivido en nuestra juventud. Muchas veces nuestros errores nos nublan la razón, y nos hacen desear ser seres perfectos que los demás no puedan juzgar, o más importante, que no podamos juzgar nosotros mismos.

Siguiendo por este espiral de depresión juvenil al que nos introduce el disco, otra canción que remarca esto es White Ceiling

Esta canción es una de mis favoritas. Aquí Parannoul nos habla de la rutina, y de cómo el tejado blanco de su habitación es lo que ve todos los días al despertar, y antes de irse a dormir. Se refiere a él casi con recelo, como si fuese un ente vivo que lo observa con odio y lástima.
La canción, como muchos ya adivinaron, es una referencia a Neon Genesis Evangelion, y a esa frase que dice Shinji Ikari:
This song is one of my favorites. Here Parannoul talks about routine, and how the white roof of his room is what he sees every day when he wakes up, and before he goes to sleep. He refers to it almost with suspicion, as if it were a living entity that watches him with hatred and pity.
The song, as many already guessed, is a reference to Neon Genesis Evangelion, and that phrase that Shinji Ikari says:
Además de esto, el sonido no cambia mucho. Parannoul sabe utilizar su falta de presupuesto bastante bien para cumplir con las concepciones del Shoegaze. No es nada rompedor, pero representa un espíritu que me fascina: luchar contra el "No puedo".
Este disco, como el mismo nombre dice, son ganas de ver "la siguiente parte del sueño". Perseguir con fervor un anhelo arraigado que tenemos desde hace bastantes años, y sin importar los medios, ni importar la forma, cómo se cumple.
El sueño de este joven era "ser una estrella de rock", y gracias a este álbum ha sabido marcarse su lugar en la escena del shoegaze asiático, y en la escena del shoegaze contemporáneo a nivel mundial.
Sin importar cómo, ya sea con uñas y dientes, siempre valdrá la pena luchar para cumplir tus sueños.
Besides this, the sound doesn't change much. Parannoul knows how to use their lack of budget quite well to comply with shoegaze conceptions. It's nothing groundbreaking, but it represents a spirit that fascinates me: fighting against the "I can't".
This album, as the name itself says, is about wanting to see "the next part of the dream". Pursuing with fervor a deep-rooted longing that we have had for quite a few years, and no matter the means, no matter the form, how it is fulfilled.
This young man's dream was "to be a rock star", and thanks to this album he has been able to mark his place in the Asian shoegaze scene, and in the contemporary shoegaze scene worldwide.
No matter how, whether it's with sticks and stones, it will always be worth fighting to fulfill your dreams.
I Can Feel My Heart Touching You es la canción que cierra el disco, y a su vez es una de mis favoritas.
Es un track romántico bastante puro, que habla de la libertad; sentirse, aunque sea por un momento, libre.
Muchas veces esta libertad la crea el amor, y ese es uno de los sentimientos más hermosos que existen.
Pensar que, por un momento, nuestro corazón está tocando a esa persona, como la muestra de amor más honesta que podría existir.
I Can Feel My Heart Touching You is the song that closes the album, and is also one of my favorites.
It is a very pure romantic track, that talks about freedom; to feel, even if only for a moment, free.
Many times this freedom is created by love, and that is one of the most beautiful feelings that exist.
To think that, for a moment, our heart is touching that person, as the most honest show of love that could exist.
Este álbum pisó fuerte como uno de los mejores del año, y sin ninguna duda se ha ganado el aprecio de muchísimos jóvenes incomprendidos que encontraron confort y sentido en estas canciones.
Y eso me emociona.
This album stomped as one of the best of the year, and without any doubt has earned the appreciation of many misunderstood young people who found comfort and meaning in these songs.
And that excites me.
