La reseña de hoy trata acerca de un álbum que ha salido recientemente, de una banda un tanto conocida en el mundo del Industrial Rock y el Noise Pop desde su disco Peacefull as Hell. Así es: estoy hablando de Black Dresses.

Today's review is about a recently released album from a band somewhat known in the Industrial Rock and Noise Pop world since their album Peacefull as Hell. That's right: I'm talking about Black Dresses.
Forever In Your Heart es un álbum que salió hace dos semanas, y debido a que desconocía esta banda ha sido una grata sorpresa. Este trata de una forma un tanto evidente los sentimientos de ser un ser "incompleto", "vacío", y queriendo ser igual que los demás. Por ende, toda la grabación posee una carga depresiva bastante potente.
Esto se encuentra llevado por la idea de ser una persona trans en un mundo que no busca aceptarte bajo ningún precepto, e inclusive a veces busca destruirte sin importarles tu identidad.
Forever In Your Heart is an album that came out two weeks ago, and since I didn't know this band, it has been a pleasant surprise. It deals in an evident way with the feelings of being "incomplete", "empty", and wanting to be the same as everyone else. Therefore, the whole recording has a quite powerful depressive charge.
This is driven by the idea of being a trans person in a world that does not seek to accept you under any precepts, and sometimes even seeks to destroy you regardless of your identity.

Este disco abre con PEACESIGN!!!!!!!!!!!! la cual es prácticamente un estallido de energía en tu cara. Black Dresses se aprovecha de esta descarga de furia para expresar desolación, pesimismo: Intentar aferrarte a una esperanza que se está pudriendo, consciente de que no podrás hacer algo hermoso sin esperanza alguna.
Este track tiene bastantes efectos recogidos del Glitch; la canción se detiene repentinamente, suena como si el archivo estuviese corrupto. La voz de Devi muchas veces tiene efectos del autotune como si fuese una máquina derritiéndose.
Esto le añade una capa de sentimiento al álbum: sentirse como algo corrupto.
Además de esto, este álbum tiene de los mejores gritos guturales que he escuchado en un tiempo. No tanto por la técnica, sino porque Devi y Rook saben plasmar en esos gritos todos los sentimientos necesarios para que la canción no se sienta vacía, o sin propósito.
This album opens with PEACESIGN!!!!!!!!!!!! which is practically a burst of energy in your face. Black Dresses takes advantage of this discharge of fury to express desolation, pesimism: Trying to hold on to a hope that is rotting away, aware that you won't be able to make something beautiful without hope.
This track has quite a few effects picked up from Glitch; the song stops suddenly, it sounds like the file is corrupted. Devi's voice often has autotune effects as if it were a melting machine.
This adds a layer of feeling to the album: feeling like something corrupted.
Besides this, the album has some of the best guttural screams I've heard in a while. Not so much because of the technique, but because Devi and Rook know how to capture in those screams all the feelings needed to make the song not feel empty, or without purpose.
Concrete Bubble empieza con un efecto de buggeado, para luego empezar con un grito de Rook. Como te habrás podido dar cuenta, estas dos primeras canciones son de las más "metal" del álbum, el cual constantemente va a estar combinando elementos del Electro y del Rock con el industrial. Sonidos metálicos, crudos, sin procesar, caóticos.
El ritmo de la canción está llevado por una batería ruidosa, y sonidos que parecen sacados de golpear un tubo.
En cierto punto se vuelve un caos de gritos, en donde Rook y Devi dicen cosas distintas, pero que se complementan.
Me encanta precisamente por eso: logran expresar el dolor y la rabia de forma espléndida.
Esta canción habla de la imposibilidad de cumplir tus sueños, como si estuvieses atrapado en una burbuja de concreto. Pero, más específicamente, trata de como los demás juzgan luchas ajenas midiéndolas con parámetros propios.
Concrete Bubble starts with a bugged effect, and then starts with a Rook scream. As you might have noticed, these first two songs are some of the most "metal" on the album, which will constantly be combining elements of Electro and Rock with industrial. Metallic sounds, raw, unprocessed, chaotic.
The rhythm of the song is driven by noisy drums, and sounds that seem to come out of hitting a pipe.
At a certain point it becomes a screaming chaos, where Rook and Devi say different things, but they complement each other.
I love it precisely for that reason: they manage to express pain and rage in a splendid way.
This song talks about the impossibility of fulfilling your dreams, as if you were trapped in a concrete bubble. But, more specifically, it's about how others judge other people's struggles by measuring them with their own parameters.
Bulldozer es una canción que trata, como tema recurrente en todo el disco, de sentirse como un error. Sentir que hay algo mal contigo.
Este se explica de forma un tanto directa en este verso:
«I thought therе was a mistake but I was wrong
Thought there was somеthing I was missing, I was different
But I was-
I wanted to be like the other girls
Now I'm just like the other girls»
La canción es casi enteramente un sintetizador creando ambiente. El beat tiene los agudos bajados, por lo que suena como si estuviesen en otra habitación.
Me gusta bastante la forma en que los glitches forman parte para llenar una frase incompleta. Juega con el ser un error.
Bulldozer is a song that deals, as a recurring theme throughout the album, with feeling like a mistake. Feeling like there's something wrong with you.
This is explained somewhat directly in this verse:
"I thought therе was a mistake but I was wrong
Thought there was somеthing I was missing, I was different
But I was-
I wanted to be like the other girls
Now I'm just like the other girls
Now I'm just like the other girls."
The song is almost entirely a synthesizer creating ambience. The beat has the treble turned down, so it sounds like they're in another room.
I quite like the way the glitches are part of filling in an incomplete phrase. It plays with being a mistake.
Las ideas de incomprensión e insatisfacción contigo mismo continúan durante todo el disco, y llegan a puntos de pesimismo y depresión severa, en donde la violencia y daño físico son vistos como una forma de escape, como en Heaven. Casualmente la canción es llevaba al principio por lo que parece un grito junto con el beat hasta que entra la guitarra.
Luego de esto, entra un sintetizador y la melodía se vuelve más "bonita", e "armoniosa", mientras Rook habla de lo fácil que es desilusionarse del mundo cuando ni siquiera sabes quién eres.
The ideas of misunderstanding and dissatisfaction with yourself continue throughout the album, and reach points of severe pessimism and depression, where violence and physical harm are seen as a form of escape, as in Heaven. Coincidentally, the song is carried at first by what sounds like a scream along with the beat until the guitar enters.
After this, a synthesizer enters and the melody becomes more "beautiful", and "harmonious", as Rook talks about how easy it is to become disillusioned with the world when you don't even know who you are.
Gone In An Instant es una canción que amé, donde Black Dresses remarca que nada es eterno en la vida, y que como el amor y el dolor, todo puede derrumbarse y desaparecer en un instante.
Estas chicas han creado un álbum doloroso de escuchar, que nos narra la triste realidad de ser alguien incomprendido, y a veces odiado y abusado por la sociedad, aunque sea por razones que no hacen daño a nadie, como no sentirte feliz con quien eres.
Gone In An Instant is a song that I loved, where Black Dresses remarks that nothing is eternal in life, and that like love and pain, everything can crumble and disappear in an instant.
These girls have created an album that is painful to listen to, that tells us the sad reality of being someone misunderstood, and sometimes hated and abused by society, even if it's for reasons that don't hurt anyone, like not feeling happy with who you are.
Este disco nos pone una problemática real en la cara, y es que las minorías sufren durante gran parte de su vida gracias a una sociedad que no busca comprendernos...
Y me incluyo, yo también.
Precisamente para evitar el sufrimiento de más personas, ayuda y escucha a quién sea. Pero, más importante: No juzgues su lucha si no eres parte de ella.
A pesar de ya no ser una banda, Black Dresses han hecho un trabajo espléndido con este disco, y es potencial para los mejores discos del año.
This album puts a real problem in our faces, and that is that minorities suffer for a large part of their lives thanks to a society that does not seek to understand us...
And I include myself, me too.
Precisely to avoid the suffering of more people, help and listen to whoever it is. But, most important: Don't judge their struggle if you are not part of it.
Despite no longer being a band, Black Dresses have done a splendid job with this album, and it's potential for the best albums of the year.
