Luego de un tiempo sin publicar nada por la misma razón de siempre (problemas con mi salud mental), vuelvo con ustedes para hacer una de las cosas que más amo: hablar de música.
He decidido proponerme hablar de cualquier álbum que escuche, sin importar su popularidad, fecha de publicación, artista, etc. Al fin y al cabo hago esto por amor a la música, así que a partir de ahora, acostúmbrense a descubrir nueva música a mi lado.
Y hoy, hablaremos de un álbum que se ha vuelto de mis favoritos con mucha velocidad. Depression Cherry, de Beach House.

After a long time without posting anything because of the same reason as always (mental health problems), I come back to you to do one of the things I most love: talking about music.
I have decided to propose myself writing about any album I listen to, no matters its popularity, date of releasing, artist, etc. After all I do this because my love for music, so from now on, get used to discovering music beside me.
And today, we are going to talk about an album that has become one of my favorites really quickly. Depression Cherry, by Beach House.
Beach House es un duo conformado en el año 2004 por Alex Scally y Victoria Legrand en Maryland, USA.
Con el tiempo se volvieron una banda reconocida en el mundo del Indie Pop y el Dream pop, gracias a su tercer álbum: Teen Dream. Este álbum combina baterías más orgánicas con vibras menos etéreas que las que tendrían sus próximos trabajos, como Depression Cherry.
Canciones como "Silver Soul" o "Take Care" tocan temas agridulces, que se llevan por la melancolía y nostalgia que encarnan los sueños. Es, al igual que el álbum del cual hablaremos hoy, un gran disco.
Beach House is a duo formed in 2004 by members Alex Scally and Victoria Legrand in Maryland, USA.
With time they became a known band in the world of Indie pop and Dream pop, thanks to their third album: Teen Dream. This album mixes more organic drums with less ethereal vibes than their next works, like Depression Cherry.
Songs like "Silver Soul" or "Take Care" talk about bittersweet topics, that get along with the melancholy and nostalgia that only dreams encarnate. Is, just as the album we will talk today, a great record.
Depression Cherry es mi álbum favorito de este duo. Me parece sencillamente su álbum más etéreo, y más cálido de cierta forma.
El disco abre con Levitation, que me parece hermosa. A pesar de parecer sencilla, con un sintetizador y la percusión, mediante esto crean una estética que parece sacada de otro mundo.
El sentimiento del amor, al menos sentido de formas muy profundas, me recuerda a esta canción; es una sensación de estar flotando en la nada mientras sonidos hermosos te transportan a un lugar mejor.
La melodiosa voz de Victoria ayuda mucho a esta estética armoniosa, y nos hace darnos cuenta de inmediato que no estamos en los trabajos más antiguos de Beach House.
Este álbum se siente más inspirado en las bandas más "dreamy", valga la redundancia, del Dream pop. Bandas como Coteau Twins y sus discos más emblemáticos como Heaven or Las Vegas.
Depression Cherry is my favorite album of this duo. It seems to me the most ethereal, and mellow album in his own way.
The album opens with Levitation, that is beautiful. Despite looking simple, with only a synth and the percussion, through this they create an aesthetic that seems created in another world.
The feeling of love, or at least the most deep love, reminds me of this song; it's a sensation of floating in the nothing while beautiful sounds transport you to a better place.
The melodious voice of Victoria helps a lot to creating this armonious esthetic, and makes us realize that we are not in the old records from Beach House.
This album feels more influenced by the most "dreamy" bands of dream pop, for the sake of redundancy. Bands like Cocteau Twins and their most emblematic records like Heaven or Las Vegas.
Este disco también toca temas increíblemente melancólicos, pero en proporciones más densas de las que lo hacía Teen Dream. Girando mayormente entorno al amor y al desamor, Beach House se esfuerza en plasmar dichas emociones mediante paisajes oníricos y sonidos de ensueño.
Una de las canciones que mejor retrata esto, es Beyond Love.
La canción trata acerca de una ruptura amorosa, pero más específicamente es una introspección de lo que es un corazón roto, y cómo muchas veces nos sentimos vacíos al ver que no hay nada más allá del amor. También habla de la no correspondencia en el amor, y cómo en diversas ocasiones nace del miedo que ocasiona depender de alguien más hasta que ello te pueda lastimar.

Las guitarras lloran como si estuviesen en una crisis existencial eterna, y ese pequeño hook sencillamente me mata.

Esta canción te permite analizar las rupturas desde un punto de vista más honesto, menos lógico.
El amor es un sentimiento complejo que muchas veces no tiene sentido, y gracias a ello a pesar de su sufrimiento siempre volvemos a él. El dolor de la separación no es inherente a la misma, sino al dejar. Abandonar costumbres, rostros conocidos, frases, y entender que varias de las cosas dichas muy posiblemente no eran de gran peso, y cómo otras nunca dichas posiblemente si lo eran.
Eso no importa ahora, porque tristemente, ya nunca lo sabrás.
This album also touches more melancholic topics, but in a much more dense and complex way than Teen Dream did. Spinning firstly around the love and the loveless, Beach House efforts in show those emotions through dreamlike landscapes and sounds that make you believe you are daydreaming.
One of the songs that best portrays this, is Beyond Love.
The song talks about a rupture, but more specifically it's an introspection of what a broken heart is, and how more often than not we feel empty just by knowing that there is nothing else beyond love. It also talks about the non-reciprocate love, and how it comes from the fear of relaying on someone else until that can hurt you.

The guitars cry like they are in an eternal existencial crisis, and that little hook just kills me.

The song lets you analize the ruptures from a most honest point of view, less logical.
Love is a complex feeling that most of the time it does not makes sense, and thanks to that despite its suffering we always come back to it. The pain of separation is not inherent to it, but to let go. Let go manners, known faces, phrases, and understand that a lot of the things we said were probably non-important, and how the other things we never said it were important.
That does not matter now, because sadly, you will never know.
Obviamente no podría hablar de Depression Cherry sin mencionar ni una sola vez su canción más popular, siendo también la canción más famosa de Beach House: Space Song.
Esta canción retrata perfectamente el tema con su música, y precisamente es más bien una canción simple en la que se busca destacar la voz de Victoria.
Esta canción trata de extrañar. Encontrarte en tu propia soledad, añorando por el contacto de esa persona que amas. Es una canción delicada a su manera, que retrata el sentirte encerrado en tu espacio.
Ese coro en donde solo suena la drum machine con el sintetizador me parece precioso, y puedo entender por qué con el tiempo esta se volvió una canción tan famosa.
Obviously I could not talk about Depression Cherry without mentioning at least once its most popular song, also being the most famous song from Beach House: Space Song.
This song portrays perfectly his topic with his music, and precisely is actually a really simple song where it tries to remark Victoria's vocals.
The song is about missing. Find yourself in your own solitude, wishing for the physical touch of the person that you love. This song is delicate in its own way, that talks about feeling trapped in your own space.
The chorus where only the drum machine and the synth plays it's beautiful to me, and I can understand why with the pass of time it became a so famous song.
Considero este al menos top 2 de los mejores álbumes de Beach House. Mediante sus sintetizadores etéreos y cálidos, sus letras deprimentes y nostálgicas, y sus guitarras llenas de pedales y reverberación, logran encarnar los sentimientos mismos en sonidos que no se sienten tangibles, y que van más enfocados en el propósito principal de la música: sentir.
I consider this record at least top 2 of the best albums from Beach House. Using his ethereal and mellow synths, his depressive and nostalgic lyrics, and his guitars full of pedals and reverb, it achieves encarnate the pure emotions in sounds that does not feel tangible, and that are more focused on the main purpose of music: feel.
