Today I did a different dynamic to create this post, because I really wanted to start my Tuesday with good music (or maybe not so good). So, in order to do something different, I asked my friends about albums I should listen to and review. That's why today I bring you the review of "BORN PINK" by BLACKPINK.
I woke up quite early today, wanting to listen to music, but something new, something I haven't heard before. As I was exploring my spotify, nothing was coming to my mind, until it occurred to me that, maybe my friends and followers could help me. So, before I left for the gym, I posted the image I've attached here on the side. When I got back from the gym, several people had commented on some options. I opted for the one that caught my attention the most, because although I have listened to several songs from the album, I never sat down to pay attention to the lyrics and to detail its production.
Regarding the album, the second studio album of the girl group Blackpink, it is quite recent, released just a few days ago, on September 16, and since we can already see the immense impact it has had on its genre, K-Pop. Among the records it has broken, we can see the most important one, leading the list of the 200 most popular albums of the week, the Billboard Hot 200 Albums. It is quite an important milestone, because it makes them the first K-pop girl-group to do so. Now we'll see why this album is so popular today. Grab your best snack, hug your stuffed animal and join me in reviewing "BORN PINK" by BLACKPINK.
Kick in the door, waving the Coco.

We begin with a sinister chorus that gives us the iconic line, "BLACKPINK, BLACKPINK". Right away I can feel how this album is going to be quite a ride. Right away the bad-assness that is characteristic of this band's songs begins. As we enter the pre-chorus, the tempo drops a bit and prepares us for a chorus that completely freaks you out. The rhythm of the chorus is quite catchy, it makes you keep singing "Taste that pink venom".
The blend of their voices, especially the strength with which Jisoo sings in this song is incredible, this is the lead single of this album and in my opinion a very good one, accompanied by a music video that is simply amazing. With a Ratatata repeated in the bridge, it leaves us wanting to listen to it again and again. A resounding 10 / 10 and a perfect way to start this journey.
It's not a comeback, since we've never left.
Heads turn, careful, you might break your neck.
With even more force than the previous track, Shut Down comes to shut the mouths of anyone who dares to doubt the talent of these girls. An exquisite song, with an incredible production, including samples of songs from the classic genre. Full of powerful raps that make your mind explode, just like that.
The first time I heard and saw this video was with my siblings, at the time of its release, we couldn't believe all the awesomeness, both of the song and the performance we saw right in front of our eyes. They immediately made another song 10 / 10, whose only flaw is that it is not longer, which gives it the factor of wanting to listen to it again and again.

Typa girl that came straight off of the screen.
The tempo drops, but the strength of the songs don't, we're at the top of our game. Lyrically they tell us that they are "Those girls", the one everyone dreams of having, being or being with. They are divine, powerful and influential and they know it, without fear of saying it and with all the intention of rubbing it in your face. A production certainly with airs of the previous two, but with a different stamp, perhaps it feels a little more sinister, more villainous.
This time, the shortness of the song bothers me, because it's so good that I want it to last longer. We see that it's a little weaker than the other two, but nevertheless, it wins your heart right away. I give it a 9 / 10, so far the album doesn't disappoint at all. And as they put it themselves, "If you saying something else, you a liar".
I should point out that the song is entirely in English, and it's simply exquisite to hear these girls rap on the second verse; it's quite a delight to the ears.
Why do I keep smiling like this?
You don't know why I’m doing it either.
This is song number four and, I'm sorry to report, we're already halfway through the album, as unbelievable as that sounds. And it's a little disappointing that the album has lost so much steam with this song. It feels lazy, as if it's a throwaway from their older musical works. They want to give it a touch of nostalgia with a fading ending, like songs from the 80s. But they only succeed in showing how short this song is... And thank God!
The song has no feel to it, it's a mindless teenage romance song, it's like a cheesy love letter that borders on cliché. I listened to it a few times to give it a chance, but I failed to connect with the song in any way. I'll give it a 4 / 10 because in some ways it manages to resemble works by them that I do like, such as "Lovesick Girls".
There is no magic tool to fix it.
You should keep your distance.
In a way, a slower song than the previous one lifts the mood with this album. It's a solo by one of the members, Rosé, and it talks about how hard it is to love her, because she tries to push the other person away to protect them from her imperfections. Rosé has a great talent and in this song she manages to show it, even though it feels like a filler song.
I can give it a 7 / 10, because it's good, but it's not a song I would listen to often, it's probably a skip in my music library. There's not much to say, production-wise or lyric-wise, it doesn't stand out or feel, but it's not bad like the previous one.

Don’t beg me back.
We have before us the ballad of the album and, I must say, the best Blackpink ballad I've heard so far. It starts with beautiful piano and lines that shatter your heart. It's simply one of my favorite songs on the album; because of how real it feels, how aching the girls' voices sound, how melancholy the lyrics are. It's a beautiful, sad ballad.
To say it's good is an understatement, it's excellent, it's feelings done in a song that lasts long enough (Glory to God! We have long song). A well deserved 10 / 10 for the Pinks and for this wonderful album.
I say fuck it when I feel like it.
Cause no one's keeping score.
In contrast to the previous song, we return to a more up-tempo beat. However, I feel it doesn't coordinate the beat with the lyrics. The lyrics fascinate me, an anthem of female empowerment, a "I don't care what you say about me". However, the production feels so lazy compared to the lyrics, I fail to connect with this song.
A bit disappointing, because if you read the lyrics, you expect a song quite similar to Pink Venom or Shut Down, but you simply find yourself with a slower version of Yeah Yeah Yeah. A 5 / 10 because in some ways, it manages to be better than track number 4.

Can't get you out of my head
You know that many times they tend to leave the best songs to close the album. This is the opposite case, they literally left the worst song to close the album. "Ready For Love" is anything but epic. It's a song that goes unnoticed, has no flavor and can easily pass as the electronic intro to a YouTube channel. I don't like it and haven't liked it since it came out in collaboration with PUGB, it's not my style, it doesn't sound good and it wasn't successful (for some reason).
I'll flat out give it a 3 / 10 for not giving it less. Bad for an album closer, bad for being part of the album, bad, plain and simple bad.

I like to talk about music. I like to give my opinion, I find it entertaining and I share what I think, from my point of view, that of a simple music consumer and music addict. So, talking about the album of the most important female group of today is something primordial for an amateur critic. They're good, I like them, I'm quite a fan of their work.
That said, I find that a 7.2 / 10 is a pretty fair grade for this album, because, despite having some overly good songs like Shut Down and Pink Venom, it also has some that are bad, like Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah and Ready For Love. It's a high note for what I thought it would score, but it's a well-deserved score. Their legacy as artists is undeniable as is their success, I hope they continue on the path they are on, because if so, they will achieve great things in the music industry.

¡Feliz y bendecida semana para todos los que me leen!
El día de hoy hice una dinámica distinta para crear este post, porque tenía muchas ganas de empezar mi martes con buena música (o quizá no tan buena). Así que, en disposición a hacer algo distinto, pregunté a mis amistades acerca de álbumes que debía escuchar y hacer una reseña. Es por eso que hoy les traigo la reseña de “BORN PINK” de BLACK PINK.
Desperté el día de hoy bastante temprano, con muchas ganas de escuchar música, pero algo nuevo, algo que no haya escuchado. Mientras exploraba en mi spotify, nada venía a mi mente, hasta que se me ocurrió que, quizá mis amigos y seguidores me podrían ayudar. Entonces, antes de irme al gimnasio, publiqué la imagen que les adjunto acá al lado. Cuando volví del gimnasio, varios habían comentado algunas opciones. Opté por la que más llamó la atención, pues aunque he escuchado varias canciones del álbum, nunca me senté a prestar atención a las letras y a detallar su producción.
Con respecto al álbum, el segundo de estudio del grupo de chicas Blackpink, es bastante reciente, salió hace apenas algunos días, el 16 de septiembre, y desde ya podemos ver el inmenso impacto que ha tenido en su género, el K-Pop. Entre los records que ha roto, podemos ver el más importante, al liderar el listado de los 200 álbumes más populares de la semana, el Billboard Hot 200 Albums. Es un hito bastante importante, porque las convierte en el primer girl-group de k-pop en lograrlo. Ahora veremos porque este álbum es tan popular en la actualidad. Toma tu mejor snack, abraza tu peluche y únete a mí en la reseña de ”BORN PINK” por BLACKPINK.

Ni pienses en traer tus palomitas de maíz
Empezamos con un siniestro coro que nos dice la icónica línea: “BLACKPINK, BLACKPINK”. En seguida puedo sentir como este álbum será todo un viaje. En seguida empieza lo bad-ass característico de las canciones de este grupo. Cuando entramos al pre-coro, el ritmo baja un poco y nos prepara para un coro que te espelusca por completo la piel. El ritmo del coro es bastante pegajoso, hace que no dejes de cantar “Prueba este veneno rosa”.
La mezcla de sus voces, en especial la fuerza con la que canta Jisoo en esta canción es increíble, se trata del sencillo líder de este álbum y, en mi opinión, uno muy bueno, acompañado de un video musical que es simplemente increíble. Con un Ratatata repetido en el puente, nos deja con ganas de escucharla una y otra vez. Un rotundo 10 / 10 y una perfecta manera de empezar este viaje.
No es un regreso, ya que nunca nos fuimos
Cabezas girando, cuidado, vas a retorcer el cuello.
Con incluso más fuerza que el track anterior, Shut Down viene para cerrar la boca de cualquiera que se atreva a dudar del talento de estas chicas. Una canción exquisita, con una producción increíble, incluyendo samples de canciones del género clásico. Llena de poderosos raps que hacen que tu mente explote, así de sencillo.
La primera vez que escuché y vi este vídeo fue con mis hermanos, en el momento de su estreno, no podíamos creer toda la genialidad, tanto de la canción como de la perfomance que veíamos justo frente nuestros ojos. Ellas de inmediato hicieron otra canción 10 / 10, cuya única falla es que no es más larga, lo que le da el factor de querer escucharla una y otra vez.

El tipo de chica que vino directamente de la pantalla.
El ritmo baja, pero la fuerza de las canciones no, estamos al tope. Líricamente nos dicen que ellas son “Esas chicas”, la que todos sueñan tener, ser o con quien estar. Son divinas, poderosas e influyentes y lo saben, sin miedo a decirlo y con toda la intención de restregarlo en tu cara. Una producción ciertamente con aires de las dos anteriores, pero con un sello distinto, quizá se siente un poco más siniestra, más de villana.
Esta vez, lo corto de la canción me causa molestia, porque es tan buena que quiero que dure más. Vemos que es un poco más floja que las otras dos, pero sin embargo, se gana tu corazón de inmediato. Le doy un 9 / 10, hasta ahora el álbum no decepciona en lo absoluto. Y como lo dicen ellas mismas: “Si dices otra cosa, eres un mentiroso”.
Debo señalar que la canción es completamente en inglés, y es simplemente exquisito oír a estas chicas rapear en el segundo verso, es todo un deleite para los oídos.
¿Por qué estoy así? Sonriendo todo el tiempo
No sabes por qué estoy así.
Esta es la canción número cuatro y, lamento informar que ya vamos por la mitad del álbum, por increíble que suene. Y es un poco decepcionante que el álbum haya perdido tanta fuerza con esta canción. Se siente floja, como si se tratara de un descarte de sus viejos trabajos musicales. Le quieren dar un toque de nostalgia con un final que se desvanece, como las canciones de los 80s. Pero no logran más que demostrar lo corta que es esta canción… ¡Y gracias a Dios!
La canción no se siente, es una canción de un romance adolescente sin sentido, es como una cursi carta de amor que raya en lo cliché. La escuché algunas veces para darle una oportunidad, pero no logré conectar con la canción de ninguna manera. Le daré un 4 / 10 porque de cierto modo logra parecerse a trabajos de ellas que sí me gustan, tales como “Lovesick Girls”.
No existe una herramienta mágica para arreglarlo
Deberías alejarte.
De cierta forma, una canción más lenta que la anterior levanta los ánimos con este álbum. Se trata de un solo de una de las integrantes, Rosé, y habla de lo difícil que es amarla, porque ella trata de alejar a la otra persona para protegerla de sus imperfecciones. Rosé tiene un gran talento y en esta canción logra demostrarlo, a pesar de que se siente como una canción de relleno.
Le puedo dar un 7 / 10, porque es buena, pero no es una canción que escucharía seguido, es probablemente un skip en mi biblioteca de música. No hay mucho que decir, con respecto a la producción o a la letra, no resalta ni se siente, pero no es mala como la anterior.

No me pidas que regrese.
Tenemos ante nosotros a la balada del álbum y, debo decir, la mejor balada de Blackpink que he escuchado hasta el momento. Empieza con un hermoso piano y líneas que destrozan tu corazón. Es simplemente una de mis canciones favoritas del álbum, por lo real que se siente, lo doloroso que se oyen las voces de las chicas, lo melancólico de las letras. Es una balada preciosa y triste.
Decir que es buena se queda corto, es excelente, es sentimientos hechos en una canción que dura suficiente (¡Gloria a Dios! Tenemos canción larga). Un bien merecido 10 / 10 para las Pinks y para este maravilloso álbum.
Digo a la mierda cuando me dan las ganas
Porque nadie está llevando cuenta.
En contraste con la anterior canción, volvemos a un ritmo más movido. Sin embargo, siento que no coordina el ritmo con la letra. Las líricas me fascinan, un himno de empoderamiento femenino, un “No me importa lo que digas de mí”. Sin embargo, la producción se siente tan floja en comparación con la letra, que no logro conectar con esta canción.
Un poco decepcionante, porque si lees la letra, esperas una canción bastante parecida a Pink Venom o a Shut Down, pero simplemente te encuentras con una versión más lenta de Yeah Yeah Yeah. Un 5 / 10 porque de cierta forma, logra ser mejor que el track número 4.
Incluso hoy, en mi cabeza, solo T-Ú
No puedo sacarte de mi cabeza.
Saben que muchas veces suelen dejar las mejores canciones para cerrar el álbum. Este es el caso opuesto, literalmente dejaron la peor canción para cerrar el álbum. “Ready For Love” es todo menos épico. Es una canción que pasa desapercibida, que no tiene sabor y que fácil puede pasar como la intro electrónica de un canal de Youtube. No me gusta ni me gustó desde que salió en colaboración con PUGB, no es mi estilo, no suena bien y no fue exitosa (por alguna razón).
De plano le daré un 3 / 10 por no darle menos. Mala para cierre de álbum, mala para formar parte del álbum, mala, simple y llanamente mala.

Me gusta hablar de la música. Me gusta dar mi opinión, lo encuentro entretenido y comparto lo que yo pienso, desde mi punto de vista, el de un simple consumidor de música y adicto a ella. Así que, hablar del álbum del grupo femenino más importante en la actualidad es algo primordial para un crítico amateur. Son buenas, ellas me gustan, soy bastante fan de su trabajo.
Dicho eso, me parece que un 7.2 / 10 es una nota bastante justa para este álbum, porque, a pesar de tener algunas canciones demasiado buenas como Shut Down y Pink Venom, también tiene algunas que son malas, como lo son Yeah Yeah Yeah y Ready For Love. Es una nota alta para lo que pensé que sacaría, pero es una nota puntuación bien merecida. Su legado como artistas es innegable al igual que su éxito, espero que sigan por el camino que van, porque de ser así, lograrán grandes cosas en la industria de la música.
Y así llegamos al final de esta reseña. Espero que haya sido de su agrado, que hayan disfrutado este increíble trayecto conmigo y que puedan volver a escuchar algunas de las canciones.
