Meeting A Friend In Ueno

I left work earlier today because of a dentist appointment. Ever since my friends from Hive PH community had a talk about going to the dentist, I’ve been religiously going.

It’s also been a while since I went to one. So far, today was 4th time in this dental clinic near home. Nothing eventful except that I only paid less than 1,000 yen (~6.59 USD) for the services today thanks to my health insurance, and that I’m not allowed to eat snacks (I’m assuming the dentist meant sweet snacks because she particularly gave examples of sweet things) and mochi (the only snack I remembered. Also, I’m not allowed to eat or drink anything for 2 hours. I was thirsty but sacrifices must be made.

I didn’t go back to work after the quick appointment. I’m meeting a friend in Ueno tonight. She’s been touring Tokyo and today’s the only time that I’m free and able to meet her. Luckily she’s okay with meeting me, even though she had planned to go back to the hotel earlier to pack for her flight back home tomorrow.

Since I had nothing to do, I decided to roam around Ueno Park while waiting for our meetup. I wasn’t expecting to see the cherry blossoms here now!

I don’t usually go to crowded parks during this time so today’s probably the first time that I’m here in Ueno Park to see the cherry blossoms. I’ve been here before but not for this short lived and well loved flowers.

If I find the inspiration to write more about it, I’ll share more of this story and more photos.

Looking at the photos I took, I realized I’ve also been just taking photos of anything I find interesting. 😅

So random but I was amazed to find this shrine here in the crowded park. It’s closed though, would be interesting to see what’s inside.

This is probably the super random in my photos today. I stopped by a bit and found this small pond. It’s not so noticeable if you’re passing by the main path and I just happened to branch out from that path and explore the sides. Water’s gushing out from this not so good looking square well. I’m guessing when the sakura will fall, this pond will be filled of its petals.

Not sakura petals yet but maybe 1 or 2 weeks, this ground may be a carpet of the fallen cherry blossoms.

Since my friend wanted katsu, that was what I was looking for here in Ueno. Fortunately I found a restaurant nearby and we were able to sit right away.

Oh no, my tooth. 😂 It’s already past 2 hours so I should be able to eat now. But katsu’s on the crunchier side so I had to order something easier to eat - still katsu.

We haven’t seen each other for years. She’s a friend from university. I met her through another close friend. That time, we were cosplay buddies. 🫣 Fun times!

ueno

We talked a lot and even when we were walking around Ueno to look for desserts, we were still talking nonstop. Our topics were about Japanese people, manners, culture and many more. I noticed we’ve grown so much that before when we were younger, our topics would be about cosplays and animes and the like. Now, it’s about the learnings and life.

cute panda of ueno

It was such a nice talk over katsu and strawberries. 🍓

Thanks for reading!
See you around! じゃあ、またね!

All photos are taken by my phone unless stated otherwise.
