Bye-bye Skyline

The Skyline restaurant in Pontefract. OMG. That font!!

Back in the UK, the wife soon tires of bread and potatoes and craves a taste of home. Soon as in after a couple of meals!

The go to place in Pontefract for a taste of Thai, admittedly cooked for a more Yorkshire palate has been the Skyline restaurant where bags of Tom Yam Kung get dispatched to my mums with almost daily regularity.

But all that has ended with the closing of the restaurant for three months as it gets refurbished and turned into a 'fusion-Asian' restaurant, whatever that means exactly.

Not exactly the most convincing Thai decor but at least the owners, and most importantly, the chef, were genuine Thai.

Generally speaking, the wife's thoughts on most UK, Thai restaurants isn't exactly glowing but is still happy to order dishes just to get that Thai taste to break up her perceived monotony of standard English fayre. She may have a point.

This all means that it's more cooking for me. The rice is the easy part. After trying every brand of microwavable rice known to man, she settled on Veet, (not sure why, but I always thought that Veet was a brand of hair removal cream) jasmine rice and for protein, any pork mince or chicken, fried with any one of a number of stir in spice packets of sauce mixes will have to suffice.

Tom Yam Kung. It's just bloody soup. I need to email Campbells. I'm sure they could knock this out in a can.

After writing this, I just googled Tesco to find it's called Veetee, not Veet...

Either way, goodbye Skyline, goodbye Tom Yam Kung and hello frying pans, washing up and the end of being sat on my arse watching 'The Chase' while my old mam knocks me up a bit of tea.

Happy holidays, it's great to be home...
