Ingress - Gaming for your Fitness

I love playing Ingress - the mix of playing a video game and walking captured me years ago. Let me explain the game:

In Ingress, there are two factions that primarily try to conquer as much of the world as possible. For this purpose, a kind of virtual reality was laid over the globe, into which one can immerse oneself via a smartphone or tablet. If one now enters this parallel world, portals become visible to the player (agent), which are usually located at some sights from real life. The goal is to capture these portals and connect them to other portals. If you manage to connect 3 portals to form a triangle, a field is created underneath, which has a certain value. The value of a conquered area is determined by the approximate number of people (mind units") living in that area. The resulting number of points is credited to one's own party and a kind of ranking is created between the parties.

You can play it solo, simply by moving through your surroundings, or you can play together with other people to form big fields where the sides are 100 km or more. Some of you may know Pokemon Go - this is similar, but you don't play directly against other players, but conquer or defend portals.

Depending on your own agent level and the equipment you have collected in the course of the game, taking over portals can be easier or more difficult. In addition to one's own level and the available equipment, there is also the strength of the enemy portal and the protective mechanisms that the other party has integrated into the portal. And this is where the team play aspect

comes into play! Because a strong portal cannot be built by a single agent! If you want to build a strong portal that can also withstand the odd attack, this must be done with other agents from your own team. For a perfect portal, for example, at least "8" agents of the "highest" level must be involved in the construction!

And yes, there is a lot of background and lore and story made up around it. If you're a fan of these things you can find snippets of information (media such as newspaper clippings, documents or audio recordings) that are used to develop the story. But I'm not that interested in this part of the game.
