Common cane! My Actifit Report Card: September 28 2020

Beeing in nature fills up the batteries! And if you can combine it with hiking or cycling - that is even better. I really need those long walks where I can see some animals, plants, water..

Exactly here, next to a small river we can hear some species of birds moving in the reeds. Also, here live snakes, insects, foxes, wild boars.

And there are reeds. Lots of reeds.

It is the common cane ( its scientific name is Arundo donax). It is a plant that in the past has been widely used to make baskets, roofs of houses, musical instruments, support for fruit trees. But now they are not used as much, and the cane has invaded the entire area.

It has a powerful, thick and long woody rhizome. The rhizomes expand horizontally and branch out. It is pushing back other indigenous species and it is very difficult to eradicate it.

It has great vigor that can grow from 2 to 6 meters in height.

I know that it is an invasive specie, however I like to walk between them and look up to the sky.

Thanks for reading and have a splendid week!!
