Kensington Metropark - Actifit Report Card: August 11 2024

Hey Actifitters,

Unlike the day before, yesterday started with a much lazier mood. I failed to sleep early the night before because I watched the last events of the Olympics, including the women marathon. They were amazing! The lady who won it, also won two other races on the track! Crazy! Anyways, that combined with the grey weather contributed to my laziness. But in the afternoon, the weather cleared up and I made the last minute decision to go to Kensington Metropark. The not-so-hot weather was good for an easy hike in the park. The plan was to get there early enough to walk a few miles before the sunset. The sun was indeed still high in the sky when we started our walk.

I like to start in this area because you get to the lake very quickly, with some great views and reflections of course.

The view from that small bridge is always one of my favorite.

Did you see the Moon on the previous shot? No? What about now?

I could stay around the bridge for hours, snapping photos and enjoying the views.

But the original plan was to walk a bit, so we got back on our way. And the next views are just as great anyways, like this small marina a little further.

At this point, Kaia was already breathing so loud, it was impossible to sneak on wildlife, but we did see a few, including these funny big birds, and that random bunny.

Talking about Kaia, she was a trooper! Very well behaved as always, and she followed with no problem. I think walking on-leash at a steady pace, although not as fun, is better for her.

We were already more than 2 miles in with the sun getting lower but there were a few more spots I wanted to hit before turning back. So we stayed in the same direction for a little more.

I estimated we needed at least 2 more miles to reach the best sunset viewpoints. That would have been possible, but 9+ miles would have been too much for Kaia, not to mention part of it would have been in total darkness. So we turned back and went back to our car, so we could drive to the next viewpoints. Of course, we made a few more stops near the bridge, where the light was already very different.

Then we drove to the beach and arrived just in time for the sunset. Not a minute too soon!

We followed the lake shore as the sun quickly disappeared.

After lots of hesitation again, I'll use this photo for AroundTheWorld contest:

Maybe we were a bit late after all, because when we arrived at the boat launch, my other favorite sunset spot, only the beautiful colors were left in the sky.

All the boats were neatly put away for the night.

Oops, I guess somebody enjoyed it so much they forgot to get back in time. The wind was completely down and he had to row all the way back!

And there were just a few more still in the middle. Maybe they got inspired by the Paris Olympics and are already training for Los Angeles 2028!

Soon after it got dark, and it was time to drive back home. Not without a last shot of the Moon of course!

Well, that last minute decision was a great one, we really enjoyed our walk. All in all, I think it was just over 5 miles, not a long walk, but perfect to end the week end. Let's see if it's enough for my #Poliac duel.
I already included quite a few photos, but for once I kept some for non-Actifit posts, especially reflections. I noticed that unfortunately many Actifit users started to do the same, and keep their best content for other communities. I don't blame them, it's the direct consequence of the corrupt Actifit curation team. Day after day, instead of rewarding the best reports, they curate almost solely based on favoritism, further damaging the Actifit community reputation on Hive. That is of course shameful but that is what it is.

As always, thanks for stopping by and see you tomorrow.
