Lock 'Em Up and Throw Away the Key! (Thu 15 Jul 2021)

Photo: When the original "key" is long gone, it can take every trick in the book to get one of these open.

Out of all the activity I engaged in today, the most challenging was trying to unlock the bathroom door. The last two little girls to exit through the door swore up, down, and sideways that they didn't lock the door. It must have been magic. Or ghosts. Or maybe the dog did it. 👻

I looked up how to open one of these locked door knobs when you no longer have the little key thing that opens them. I tried and tried and tried every method described. Nothing worked.

I finally ended up removing the knob so the inner parts could wiggle a bit then repeatedly jammed a butter knife along the frame until it popped open. That took over an hour of trial and error. Reassembling the door knob took an inordinate amount of time as well. That was both a physical and mental workout. 🍴

I also found out later that the same granddaughters had a few tough minutes when they couldn't unlock my truck door (it wasn't supposed to be locked and they weren't supposed to be playing in it either). They figured it out on their own but I told them that any and everything with a lock on it is now forbidden terrority. Then they locked me out of the house. ARRRGGGHH!

As for the more enjoyable Actifit-worthy activities of the day, that involved house and homesteading chores plus playing with grandkids. Early in the morning I got in a nice lengthy workout with weights focusing on my arms and upper body. That came in handy later when I had to wrestle with that door knob.
