Story Time & My Actifit Report Card: August 23 2023

As it was our kids' first week back to school, lessons mainly consisted of assessments to see where they were in their learning. We were looking at their retention of the math concept of "Place Value."

Me: Dhani, "Can you recall anything about place value?"
Dhani: Ahm, wait let me think

After a moment...

Dhani: I know! It is somewhere you can go.
Me: I smiled, Trying not to laugh and just showing him encouragement by saying "Oh ok, I get what you mean but I wanted you to think about Maths, about numbers Dhani"
Dhani: I don’t know, I forgot.

After reassuring him that it was fine, I told my colleagues, and we couldn't help but laugh. Not in a judgmental sense, but for the inside cuteness. You see, he has Autism and tends to take things literally. How their thinking works is really a mystery and indeed needs a massive understanding and of course 💙.

By the way, that photo is Tidilly, his new chameleon toy he brought from his home. I was telling him to put it in his bag as it was distracting him from focusing on listening.

Me: Dhani, that toy needs to be in your bag. It is not helping you to listen, isn’t it?
Dhani: But, But Tidilly wants to listen and learn too!
Me: I quickly turned around because I couldn't stop chuckling, but when I went back around, I instructed him to put it in his cubby in the classroom with a serious face. I then told him that Tidilly would not go then in his bag but that it needed to go in his cubby, inside the class, and reassured him that Tidilly could still hear us as it was in the classroom anyway. He then gladly complied.

A win win circumstance eh. 😃

How did yours go?
