Stepping Back into the Groove: A 7.5km Comeback

After last week's 100km walk, I promised myself I'd take a solid break—let my feet heal, give my legs a rest, and maybe catch up on a few episodes of that show everyone’s been talking about, “Killing Eve”. But it turns out that while my feet appreciated the downtime, my legs had other plans. They’ve been itching to get moving again, and today, I finally gave in.

Lacing up my shoes this morning felt like reuniting with an old friend—comfortable, familiar, but with a little bit of that "should I really be doing this already?" hesitation. I knew I wasn’t going to push it too hard. The goal was to just get out there, breathe in some fresh air, and see how far I could go before my body told me to knock it off.

I set out with no real expectations—just the intent to enjoy the scenery and test the waters. I even broke up my test in two walks. And what a test it was! Nature, as always, showed up in full force during my second walk. The sun was just starting to dip below the horizon, casting a golden glow on everything in its path. The canal was like glass, reflecting the trees and sky in a way that made it seem like I was walking through a painting. It’s the kind of scene that makes you forget about distance and pace, and just focus on the simple joy of being outside.

Before I knew it, I’d clocked 7.5km. Not quite the 10k steps I usually aim for, but considering the circumstances, I’d say it’s a pretty solid start. The best part? No major complaints from the feet or legs—a sure sign that I’m ready to ease back into my routine.

Today was a reminder that recovery isn’t just about rest; it’s about knowing when to get back out there and start moving again, even if it’s just a little bit at a time. Here’s to more steps, more sunsets, and finding that perfect balance between pushing forward and taking it easy.
