Walking with My Son: A Rare Gift Twice in One Day

A few weeks ago, I mentioned a walk I took with my eldest son—a rare occurrence that I hold close. Life has a way of keeping us busy, scattering these precious moments across time like leaves in the wind. But this weekend, something magical happened. Not only did I get one of those cherished walks, but I got a second, just as meaningful.

The first part of our journey took us along a forest lake, where the water was so still it mirrored the sky and trees with perfect clarity. We didn’t talk much; we didn’t need to. The silence was a conversation in itself, punctuated only by the occasional rustle of leaves or the distant call of a bird.

As we moved deeper into the forest and across the heath, it struck me how these moments are the ones that stay with you. It wasn’t about the 10km we walked—it was about the connection, the quiet understanding that in that moment, nothing else mattered.

It’s funny how life works. You go through weeks without a moment like this, and then suddenly, two come along back to back, as if the universe knows you need them. They say lightning doesn’t strike twice, but maybe, just maybe, moments like these do.

So here’s to the unexpected walks, the quiet conversations, and the memories we carry with us long after we’ve returned home. Here’s to hoping for many more of these rare gifts. 🌲👣
