"The Oratory of Theodulf"

As many of you know, I recently undertook a short trip to France and I already posted about it in great detail. On this trip, one of the stations was Germigny-des-Prés (Département Loiret) and the Oratory of Bishop Theodulf of Orléans, a Carolingian church from 806 A.D., which is my motif for today's painting.
Today a humble catholic parish church, the building was erected in the square, stocky fashion of Byzantine churches. As this building style is so different from the churches one usually gets to see in France, and because I liked the little park behind the church so much, I made this quick painting in watercolor pencil based on my own reference photo.
Wie viele von euch wissen, habe ich vor kurzem eine kurze Reise nach Frankreich unternommen, über die ich bereits ausführlich berichtet habe. Eine der Stationen dieser Reise war Germigny-des-Prés (Département Loiret) und das Oratorium des Bischofs Theodulf von Orléans, eine karolingische Kirche aus dem Jahr 806 n. Chr., die mein Motiv für das heutige Bild ist.
Das Gebäude, das heute eine bescheidene katholische Pfarrkirche ist, wurde in der viereckigen, gedrungenen Form der byzantinischen Kirchen errichtet. Da dieser Baustil so anders ist als die Kirchen, die man sonst in Frankreich zu sehen bekommt, und weil mir der kleine Park hinter der Kirche so gut gefallen hat, habe ich dieses schnelle Bild mit Aquarellstiften nach meinem eigenen Referenzfoto gemalt.
