Fue una etapa muy compleja, salíamos cada mañana muy temprano para formarnos en una larga cola y esperar las famosas “perreras”, sí, así las llamaban, pero no era tan difícil de entender el porqué de aquel calificativo, eran vehículos adaptados con barandas de hierro para proteger a los ocupantes. Colocaban de cada lado unos asientos en forma de bancos de iglesia, a veces acolchados otras no, y los que no tenían la suerte de ir sentados, tenían que ir de pie completamente encorvados ya que el techo de la perrera era muy bajo.
Se veían tantas cosas en cada trayectoria, como personas sin un poco de empatía que dejaban a una anciana de pie, o mujeres embarazadas con niños de la mano que también quedaban parados y expuestos a cualquier accidente, pero no había para dónde agarrar, era lo que nos podían ofrecer, fue una época donde los repuestos estaban incomprables o escasos y los transportes públicos estaban parados.

They placed on each side seats in the form of church pews, sometimes padded, sometimes not, and those who were not lucky enough to be seated, had to stand completely hunched over because the roof of the kennel was very low.
You could see so many things in every path, like people without a bit of empathy who left an old woman standing, or pregnant women with children in their hands who were also left standing and exposed to any accident, but there was nowhere to grab, it was what they could offer us, it was a time when the spare parts were incomprable or scarce and public transport was at a standstill.
Aquella mañana, corrí con la suerte de encontrar un vehículo casi vacío, sólo lo ocupaban dos señoras mayores, una chica con unos niños, un joven y el recolector de la perrera. Yo esperaba en una parada cercana a mi casa y me dirigía a hacer unas compras. No tuve necesidad de ir de pie, pero me quedé pensando cómo me regresaba a mi casa con las bolsas del mercado si se llenaba el vehículo, mis bolsas quedarían aplastadas. No contaba con suficiente plata para pagar un taxi. Iba pensando en eso mientras hacía las compras.
Retorné a la parada principal con mis bolsas en la mano. Al menos ahí podía optar a una perrera que estuviera libre para ir sentada. Dejé pasar una porque se llenó muy rápido por los que iban adelante. Cuando llegó la siguiente, ya iba de primera en la cola por lo que pude sentarme al final de un banco y coloqué mis bolsas por debajo de él. Eran tiempos de implementar tácticas para amoldarse a las circunstancias, y aunque no siempre eran las más cómodas, ese día logré que las verduras no llegaran aporreadas, ni los huevos quebrados.
That morning, I was lucky enough to find an almost empty vehicle, it was only occupied by two elderly ladies, a girl with some children, a young man and the collector of the kennel. I was waiting at a stop near my house and was on my way to do some shopping. I didn't need to stand up, but I kept thinking how I would get back home with the bags from the market if the vehicle filled up, my bags would be crushed. I didn't have enough money to pay for a cab. I kept thinking about that while I was shopping.
I returned to the main bus stop with my bags in hand. At least there I had a choice of a kennel that was free to sit in. I let one go by because it filled up so quickly for the people in front of me. When the next one arrived, I was already first in line so I was able to sit at the end of a bench and placed my bags underneath it. Those were times of implementing tactics to adapt to the circumstances, and although they were not always the most comfortable, that day I managed to keep the vegetables from getting pounded and the eggs from getting broken.
