Achievement
In my previous participation in this contest, I had told you that at the beginning of last year I traveled to the city of Caracas for a few days to attend the graduation ceremony of the older of my two sons, who received his degree in Computer Engineering after successfully completing his studies and fulfilling all the requirements requested by the Venezuelan educational authorities.
After touring the neighboring town of El Hatillo and sharing with my son, his girlfriend and her family, who were there for a family celebration the day before the ceremony, we said goodbye and each one went to their respective homes.
The university is located in a mountainous area on the outskirts of the city, and surrounded by a large expanse of protected forests, so the average temperature is very pleasant, and even quite cold in the morning hours for our tropical standards that are usually very warm in most of the country.
That day, I got up early to get cleaned up, dressed and had breakfast before taking a cab through an app similar to Uber, which does not exist in Venezuela, to take me to the university campus, a journey that took just under half an hour.
Upon arrival I met my son and his girlfriend who had just arrived, while we waited for my other son, the mother of my two children and other relatives who would attend the ceremony scheduled at 11 am, so we took advantage of the time to share and make an impromptu first photo shoot.
En mi anterior participación de este concurso, les había contado que a principios del año pasado viajé a la ciudad de Caracas por algunos días para asistir al Acto de Grado del mayor de mis dos hijos, quien recibía su título de Ingeniero en Computación luego de culminar satisfactoriamente sus estudios y cumplir con todos los requisitos solicitados por las autoridades educativas venezolanas.
Luego de recorrer el vecino poblado de El Hatillo y compartir con mi hijo, su novia y la familia de esta última, quienes se encontraban allí en una celebración familiar el día anterior al acto, nos despedimos y cada quien se retiró a sus respectivos hogares.
La universidad se encuentra en una zona montañosa en las afueras de la ciudad, y rodeada por una gran extensión de bosques bajo régimen de protección, por lo que la temperatura promedio es muy agradable, e incluso bastante fría en horas de la mañana para nuestros estándares tropicales que suelen ser muy cálida en la mayor parte del país.
Ese día, me levanté temprano para asearme, vestirme y desayunar antes de tomar un taxi a través de una aplicación similar a Uber, la cual no existe en Venezuela, para trasladarme hasta el campus universitario, un trayecto que tomó poco menos de media hora.
Al llegar me encontré con mi hijo y su novia que recién habían llegado, mientras esperábamos a mi otro hijo, a la madre de mis hijos y otros familiares que asistirían a la ceremonia pautada a las 11 de la mañana, por lo que aprovechamos el tiempo para compartir y realizar una improvisada primera sesión fotográfica.
After finishing the graduation ceremony where undergraduate and graduate students of the different careers offered by the university received their respective diplomas, and of course, to congratulate my son and some of his classmates who that day also reached this great achievement; we went to make the photo shoot included in the package previously agreed by the graduates and family, and then we went to the large green areas of the campus to continue with the rites and traditions of that house of studies.
When we left the university, my son took me to the city, where I again requested a cab through the mobile application described above, to take me to the house where I was staying, while they would continue celebrating until dawn the next day.
As a curious fact, the circulation of the main access road of this institution founded in the late 60's, is on the left, in the English style, so it was baptized by the original authorities as "Abbey Road", the legendary London street where the record studio is located, in which The Beatles recorded much of his musical legacy, as well as other bands and artists such as Pink Floyd, The Alan Parsons Project, Freddie Mercury, Amy Winehouse, among others.
To paraphrase a phrase from the movie "Yesterday" that I saw a couple of years ago, "The Beatles did not change the world, but they made it a better place to live in"; while universities train the human resources destined to achieve the change we all desire.
Luego de finalizar el Acto de Grado donde estudiantes de pregrado y posgrado de las diferentes carreras que ofrece la universidad recibieron sus respectivos diplomas, y por su supuesto, de felicitar a mi hijo y a algunos de sus compañeros que aquel día también alcanzaron este gran logro; acudimos a realizar la sesión fotográfica incluida en el paquete acordado previamente por los graduandos y familiares, y posteriormente nos dirijimos a las amplias áreas verdes del campus para continuar con los ritos y las tradiciones propias de esa casa de estudios.
Al retirarnos de la universidad, mi hijo me acercó hasta la ciudad, donde nuevamente solicité un taxi mediante la aplicación móvil descrita anteriormente, para trasladarme hasta la casa donde me estaba alojando, mientras ellos continuarían festejando hasta el amanecer del día siguiente.
Como dato curioso, la circulación de la principal vía de acceso de esta institución fundada a finales de la década de los 60, es por la izquierda, a la usanza inglesa, por lo que fué bautizada por las autoridades originales como "Abbey Road", la mítica calle londinense donde se encuentra el estudio discográfico, en el cual The Beatles grabó gran parte de su legado musical, al igual que otras bandas y artistas como Pink Floyd, The Alan Parsons Project, Freddie Mercury, Amy Winehouse, entre otros.
Parafraseando una frase de la película "Yesterday" que ví hace un par de años, "The Beatles no cambiaron el mundo, pero hicieron de él un mejor lugar para vivir."; mientras las universidades forman el recurso humano destinado a lograr el cambio que todos deseamos.
