A nuestro país viajó el presidente de la Asociación Internacional de Boxeo (IBA) y se realizó un amplio número de actividades que tuvo como plato fuerte la celebración de un cartel de boxeo, entre púgiles de la escuadra Domadores de Cuba, correspondiente a nuestro país y boxeadores de Armenia, Uzbekistán, Colombia, República Dominicana y Rusia.
Fue un cartel que se desarrolló bajo el formato profesional, con cuatro peleas a seis asaltos y dos a diez. Estas peleas fueron desarrolladas en el Coliseo de la Ciudad Deportiva de La Habana y constituyeron una fiesta de pueblo, en la que participaron más de diez mil aficionados de la capital y del resto del país.

La rica historia de Cuba en el boxeo es incuestionable y lo avalan las más de 40 medallas de oro y alrededor de 80 campeones mundiales. Sin embargo, hay otro hecho que pesó en la decisión de la IBA y es el hecho de estar conmemorando por esos días el 50 aniversario del primer Campeonato Mundial de Boxeo Amateur, acontecimiento al que le dedicaremos una publicación en la comunidad.
Entre las actividades realizadas estuvo una clase magistral con la participación de 300 boxeadores infantojuveniles, una conferencia magistral sobre la ruta a seguir por el boxeo y su importancia en el desarrollo de los atletas y la premiación a boxeadores destacados de Cuba y el mundo que son leyendas y referentes de esta disciplina como el panameño Roberto Durán, conocido como "Mano de Piedra" y otros destacados campeones olímpicos cubanos.
El cartel de boxeo
Cuba prestigió la gala presentando boxeadores de un amplio palmarés. Entre los boxeadores Saidel Orta, Lázaro Álvarez, Erislandy Álvarez, Roniel Iglesias, Arlen López y Julio César la Cruz hay 7 títulos olímpicos y medallas alcanzadas en los eventos boxísticos más importantes del mundo.
En cada uno de los combates, los nuestros salieron airosos y, las palmas para Arlen López y Julio César la Cruz, quienes alcanzaron sendas fajas mundiales en el nivel profesional, al ganar los cinturones dorados de la Asociación Internacional de Boxeo.
Mi participación en la gala de campeones
Siempre que tengo la oportunidad participo en los eventos deportivos que se desarrollan en mi país. Afortunadamente, vivo en un municipio donde quedan varias de las instalaciones deportivas más importantes de Cuba y, entre ellas, se encuentra el Coliseo de la Ciudad Deportiva que fue la sede de esta competencia.
La competencia comenzó a las 7 pm y llegué a la instalación cuando apenas faltaban 15 minutos para iniciar el cartel. ¡Qué ambiente viví!
En la instalación había más de diez mil espectadores que, entusiasmados por la actuación de los boxeadores, gritaban los nombres de sus ídolos y coreaban el nombre de Cuba, Cuba, Cuba.
Fue la primera vez que vi boxeo profesional en vivo, aunque, en honor a la verdad, no superó mis expectativas.
De todos los boxeadores cubanos que subieron al cuadrilátero, el que más me impresionó fue Arlen López, quien dio una disertación de buen boxeo, golpeo preciso y ética deportiva. Aproveché el evento para confraternizar, preguntar y responder interrogantes y vivir un momento indescriptible que, desde ya, califica como uno de los momentos más importantes de estos últimos años.

International Boxing Day was celebrated yesterday, August 27, and on this occasion, Cuba was selected as the world headquarters of this activity.
The president of the International Boxing Association (IBA) traveled to our country and a large number of activities were held, the highlight of which was the celebration of a boxing cartel, between boxers from the Domadores de Cuba squad, corresponding to our country, and boxers from Armenia, Uzbekistan, Colombia, Dominican Republic and Russia.

These fights were held at the Havana Sports City Coliseum and constituted a people's party, in which more than ten thousand fans from the capital and the rest of the country participated.

My participation in the champions gala
Whenever I have the opportunity, I always participate in the sporting events that take place in my country. Fortunately, I live in a municipality where there are several of the most important sports facilities in Cuba and, among them, is the Sports City Coliseum which was the venue for this competition.
The competition started at 7 pm and I arrived at the facility when there were barely 15 minutes left to start the line-up. What an atmosphere I experienced!
In the facility there were more than ten thousand spectators who, excited by the performance of the boxers, shouted the names of their idols and chanted the name of Cuba, Cuba, Cuba.
It was the first time I saw live professional boxing, although, to tell the truth, it did not exceed my expectations.
