Esta es una primera publicación de un deporte que por su popularidad puede influir en que se sigan acortando las distancias entre el deporte masculino y femenino y contribuir a la tan ansiada igualdad de géneros en el deporte.

Más allá de la importancia del torneo y la calidad del mismo lo cierto es que la FIFA se ha sumado a los elementos de igualdad entre hombres y mujeres y se han dado elementos que por primera vez verán la luz en una competición de este tipo y que hasta ahora solo estaban destinados a las copas mundiales masculinas. Por tal razón:
•Será un mundial que se dispute entre 32 selecciones, algo que ocurre por vez primera en torneos femeninos
•El torneo tendrá una duración de un mes al igual que su homólogo masculino,
•Tendrá el mismo formato de competición, con fases regulares, clasificación de los dos primeros equipos a octavos de final y, a partir de esa fase eliminación directa hasta saber el ganador.
•Se realizarán 64 partidos, al igual que el torneo global masculino.
Otro elemento interesante es que por primera vez se comparte la sede de una Copa Mundial de Fútbol Femenino en dos países diferentes, con la particularidad que ambos están en el mismo continente, pero en dos confederaciones diferentes.
A nivel competitivo será un torneo muy exigente porque ya hay varias naciones que han ido alcanzando nivel y de seguro querrán desbancar de los lugares de privilegios a los países que históricamente han dominado en las ocho ediciones anteriores.
Los que seguimos el deporte nos cuesta creer que potencias de este deporte como Brasil, Argentina, Francia, España, Italia e Inglaterra no hayan podido ganar una Copa Mundial. Incluso, solo Brasil ha clasificado a una final mundial y no pudo ganarla ni aun teniendo a Martha Vieira Da Silva o sencillamente Martha, quien es considerada una de las mejores futbolistas de la historia.

Varios elementos distinguen las Copas Mundiales del Fútbol Femenino. En estas ocho ediciones podemos percatarnos que, a diferencia del fútbol masculino, en el que hay paridad entre varios equipos aquí hay una selección que domina y otra que le ha hecho fuerza. Durante treinta días 32 equipos estarán pugnando por levantar la novena Copa Mundial del Fútbol Femenino, una competición que estará llena de dramatismo, calidad competitiva y derroche de sacrificio y talento.
Varias naciones intentarán alcanzar su primer título en este tipo de competición, para tratar de inscribir el nombre de sus naciones, entre las selecciones que han alzado uno de los trofeos más ansiados del deporte internacional.
