En ambos eventos se sucedieron un número importante de acontecimientos y, aunque en ambos casos estos equipos tenían la etiqueta de favoritos o estaban en los planes de los entendidos para alzarse con la corona, lo cierto es que tenían que materializarlo ante un número importante de equipos que estaban pugnando por alcanzar el mismo objetivo.

Cuando se escriba la historia del deporte de este 2023 estas dos competiciones estarán entre lo más destacado del año por lo que representó para cada una de estas franquicias y por su connotación a nivel internacional. De una parte, la competición de fútbol más prestigiosa del mundo a nivel de clubes y de la otra la competición del mejor baloncesto internacional.
Ninguna de estas franquicias había alcanzado un título similar, a pesar de la gran cantidad de jugadores estelares que han pasado por sus clubes. Pero, en el deporte no siempre basta que un equipo esté conformado por un todos estrellas, sino y más importante aún es que funcionen como equipo, que el interés colectivo esté por encima del individual y que se entienda en cada momento cuáles son los objetivos que se deben alcanzar.
El Manchester City hizo más azul el cielo del planeta fútbol
Varias temporadas lleva Josep Guardiola al frente de este equipo y siempre con el mismo objetivo y la misma exigencia: Ganar la Liga de Campeones de Fútbol en Europa: Por más que el técnico catalán le había dado coronas de la Liga Premier y de la Copa Inglesa todos pedían a gritos el título mayor: "La Orejona"
Año tras año el equipo fichaba estrellas mundiales, desembolsaba millones de euros y el equipo avanzaba, pero no ganaba el ansiado título. Sin embargo, en las últimas temporadas y, a pesar de las dolorosas derrotas el equipo había llegado a semifinales y a una final. Todavía duelen las derrotas de la final contra el Chelsea y la del año pasado contra el Real Madrid en aquella remontada histórica del equipo blanco.
Aquella derrota contra el Madrid le enseño varias cosas a Guardiola, pero la más importante y que es una lección aprendida del equipo Merengue: Para ganar no siempre necesitas brillar.
Temporada 2022-2023
El inicio de la temporada no fue todo lo buena que hubiese querido Guardiola. Más allá de algunos resultados positivos la liga no parecía sonreírle y el equipo no encontraba la regularidad requerida, algo que para Pep es fundamental en los equipos que dirige.
Sin embargo, algo cambió: Llegó la Copa del Mundo Qatar 2022 y esa pausa de un mes le dio la posibilidad de hacer los ajustes necesarios y el equipo cambió su dinámica. Victorias, juego sólido en defensa, que a decir del propio técnico había sido una asignatura pendiente, ataque demoledor y regularidad suficiente fueron los argumentos que enseñó el City, en la fase posterior a Qatar 2022.
Tres títulos en menos de un mes
Tras una excelente temporada del Arsenal nadie esperaba que ese equipo pudiese perder la liga, pero el torneo preferido de Pep Guardiola sabía que este lo iba a luchar hasta las últimas consecuencias. Mientras el Arsenal comenzó a dejar puntos en el camino el City lo ganaba todo y recortaba distancia. Por otra parte, se aseguraba para la final de la FA Cup.
Cuando el City y el Arsenal se dieron cita en su último partido de liga todos sabían que ese era el encuentro por el título nacional. La victoria del equipo de Guardiola fue aplastante. De ahí en adelante fue sólo cuestión de copa, antes que ganara otra Liga Premier.
Por la final de la Copa se midió ante el Manchester United y más allá del resultado favorable de 2 a 1, lo cierto es que el City arrolló al United y se puso a un título de igualar algo que en Inglaterra sólo habían hecho sus rivales de turno.

El 10 de junio de 2023 quedará grabado en la memoria de los espectadores del Manchester City como una fecha inolvidable porque ese día su equipo alcanzó un título por el que habían peleado durante varias temporadas. En la final vencieron a un Inter de Milán que a juicio de este autor jugó mejor o al menos tuvo las oportunidades más claras, pero no supieron llevarlas a vías de hecho y anotar.
Por su parte, el City fue fiel a las enseñanzas de su técnico y sin desplegar ese juego bonito, ofensivo y de toques logró adaptarse al juego del rival y esperando su oportunidad les llegó el premio de uno de los que menos esperaban porque tener a Bernardo Silva, Kevin de Bruyne (lesionado en el minuto 30) o a Erling Haaland era de esperar que la anotación llegara de ahí, pero no. fue Rodri quien se convirtió en uno de los héroes y junto con Ederson, el otro héroe llevaron al Manchester City a la cima del fútbol mundial.
Los Nuggets de Denver pusieron la NBA al rojo vivo y quemaron a los Miami Heat
De todos los equipos profesionales, en todos los deportes, de esta temporada los Nuggets de Denver han sido el más regular de todos o al menos, está entre los tres más regulares. A diferencia del otro protagonista de esta publicación ellos nunca habían ganado nada porque a diferencia del fútbol esta liga sólo lucha por el anillo.
Cuando miro hacia atrás me pregunto lo que estará pensando, Carmelo Anthony, uno de los mejores jugadores en la historia de este deporte que por tantos años defendió los colores de esta franquicia y que nunca pudo, siquiera, ganar una final de conferencia con ellos.
Temporada regular de los Nuggets de Denver
Este fue el equipo que dominó la temporada oeste de punta a punta. Fue un equipo que prácticamente no tuvo fallos y pasó por encima de los equipos, en una conferencia donde estaban dos de los últimos campeones de la NBA (Golden State Warriors y Ángeles Lakers).
En un equipo donde milita una de las súper estrellas de la NBA era de esperar que se pudiera dar algún buen resultado y todos los aficionados de Denver tenían cifradas sus esperanzas en esta temporada.

Cuando comenzaron los juegos de play off todos los aficionados tenían los ojos puestos en los Nuggets para ver si este equipo era capaz de mantener la regularidad mostrada en la etapa regular. Muchos decían que no era posible mantener ese estado de forma durante toda la temporada y que los bajarían cuando se topara con los Warriors o los Lakers.
Realidad de los Play Off
Lo cierto es que los Nuggets fueron destrozando rivales tras rivales. Primero despacharon a los de Minnesota Timberwolves por un cómodo 4 a 1. La siguiente víctima fue el equipo de Kevin Durán al que despacharon por un 4 a 2 y que fue el equipo que más victorias pudo arrancarles en la fase de play off.
Final de Conferencia

Este era uno de los objetivos primarios, pues nunca antes habían ganado una conferencia y de las 4 veces que llegaron sus rivales los destrozaron en tres. Era la hora de tomas venganza, pero tenían delante un excelente equipo con Lebron James y Anthony Daves en modo imparable. Lo sucedido fue un 4 a 0 favorable a Denver y lograban alcanzar este título por primera vez en su historia, pero faltaba el premio mayor.
Haciendo historia
Para la final de la NBA se verían las caras, con un equipo al que este autor bautizó como los Matagigantes, pues había dejado en el camino a los tres mejores equipos de la Conferencia Este, entre ellos, a los Bucks y a los Celtic, dos de los candidatos al oro.
Fue una serie equilibrada, al menos en sus inicios. Incluso, cuando Miami Heat empató la serie a 1 en la casa de los Nuggets este redactor consideró que la ventaja sicológica estaba de parte de Miami porque rompieron el invicto en casa a los Nuggets y se iban para su casa.
Lo que ocurrió en los dos juegos en el sur de la Florida era incontestable porque los Nuggets ganaron los dos juegos y tenían la posibilidad de decidir en su terreno.
El 12 de junio de 2023 quedará grabado con letras doradas las siguientes frases: Los reyes de Nuggets ganan su primer anillo de la NBA y ha nacido una nueva era en el baloncesto de la NBA: La era de los Nuggets de Denver.

Han concluido las temporadas de fútbol y baloncesto de las dos principales ligas de estos deportes y para beneplácito de muchos ganaron dos equipos que por todo lo hecho, por la constancia de sus equipos y la regularidad mostrada alcanzaron algo a lo que nunca habían podido llegar: La historia hecha un trono.
