Yankees y Dodgers es la final soñada si se quieren replicar en el béisbol algunas dinámicas de marketing que han sido útiles en deportes como el fútbol. Es un Real Madrid contra Barcelona. CR7 (Judge) contra Messi (Ohtani). Seguí el partido indistintamente por FS1 (en inglés, señal estándar), Fox Deportes (en español, HD), y la mayor parte del tiempo vía ESPN 2 (en español, HD).
Jack Flaherty abrió por los de casa, sin muchos contratiempos en el primer acto salvo el boleto a Juan Soto. Gerrit Cole, el abridor por los visitantes, retó y venció a Ohtani en su primer enfrentamiento, pero se vio amenazado tras permitir un triple al ex Braves Freddie Freeman, que en todo caso se quedó con las ganas de cruzar el plato. La segunda entrada pasó sin mucha novedad, aunque destaco la perfecta dinámica de pitcheo de Cole, dibujando perfectamente la esquina lejana con una recta que se iba calentando hasta topar las 98 MPH. Flaherty también caminó bien la tercera aunque apelando más a sus envíos rompientes, en tanto Cole hizo lo propio en su cierre, con ponche incluido a la estrella japonesa.
ENGLISH VERSIONAfter a few hectic days between family matters and a national blackout that lasted days to resolve here in Cuba, the stars aligned to enjoy the first game of a World Series that will bring us many emotions. Yankees versus Dodgers is the dream final if you want to replicate in baseball some marketing dynamics that have been useful in sports like soccer. It's Real Madrid versus Barcelona. CR7 (Judge) versus Messi (Ohtani). I followed the game interchangeably on FS1 (in English, standard signal), Fox Deportes (in Spanish, HD), and most of the time via ESPN 2 (in Spanish, HD).
Jack Flaherty opened for the home side, without many troubles in the first act except for the free ticket to Juan Soto. Gerrit Cole, the starter for the visitors, challenged and beat Ohtani in their first confrontation, but was threatened after allowing a triple to former Braves Freddie Freeman, who in any case was left wanting to cross the home plate. The second inning passed without much going on, although Cole's perfect pitching dynamics stood out, perfectly drawing the far corner with a fastball that was warming up to touch 98 MPH. Flaherty also walked well in the third, although appealing more to his breaking pitches, while Cole did the same in its closing, with a strikeout against the Japanese star.

Tras el cierre de la cuarta entrada el duelo estaba planteado, si bien Cole tenía mejor economía con sus pitcheos. Ya en la quinta a los Dodgers le funcionó la parte "de abajo" de su lineup, con el natural de San Juan --Kike Hernández-- volando en modo Sonic por las bases para alcanzar la tercera, tras una durísima conexión para la banda contraria sobre recta afuera del derecho yankee. Will Smith lo remolcó con elevado de sacrificio a la zona patrullada por Soto. 1-0 Dodgers.
Pero, tal y como los avezados comentaristas de ESPN avisaron, dejar a Flaherty enfrentar por tercera vez a la tanda de los Yankees era una decisión arriesgada. Ponchó nuevamente al Juez pero luego Stanton --con Soto a bordo-- disparó un soberano jonrón por el jardín izquierdo que viajó 412 pies, castigando una curva que se le quedó colgada al lanzador azul. El zurdo Anthony Banda relevó a Flaerthy, siendo irrespetuosamente recibido por Jazz Chisholm Jr., que pegó hit y luego se coló en la segunda almohadilla. Tommy Edman se esforzó para impedir la tercera de la gente del Bronx. Bombarderos 2-1.
En una decisión complicada, Cole se mantuvo para la parte baja de la sexta, saliendo ileso de la difícil situación de tener un hombre (Edman) a 90 pies del home plate. El lanzador venezolano de rectas humeantes Brusdar Graterol mantuvo a raya a los neoyorquinos en el séptimo capítulo. Already in the fifth inning, the Dodgers had the “bottom” part of their lineup working nicely, with the San Juan native --Kike Hernandez-- flying in Sonic mode on the bases to reach third, after a very hard connection to the opposite side on a fastball. Will Smith produced the run with a sacrifice fly to the zone patrolled by Soto. 1-0 Dodgers.
But, as the seasoned ESPN commentators warned, letting Flaherty face the Yankees lineup for the third time was a risky decision. He struck out Judge again but then Stanton--with Soto aboard--fired a superb home run to left field that traveled 412 feet, punishing a curve served by the blue pitcher. Left-hander Anthony Banda relieved Flaherty, being disrespectfully greeted by Jazz Chisholm Jr, who singled and then stole the second base. Tommy Edman worked a grounder to prevent the Bronx's third. Bombers 2-1.
In a tough decision, Cole held on for the bottom of the sixth, getting out of the difficult situation of having a man (Edman) 90 feet from home plate unscathed. Venezuelan pitcher Brusdar Graterol kept the New Yorkers at bay in the seventh chapter. Although he allowed the first hit of the night to baseball's home run leader during the regular season, he finished strong by striking out Giancarlo Mike with a powerful fastball inside the strike zone.

Aaron Boone quiso extender la gracia de Cole en el box pero lo sacó apresuradamente tras el hit abriendo la parte baja del séptimo episodio cortesía de Mr. Seeds. Clay Holmes entró disparatado, golpeando la anatomía de Max Muncy con lento envío de 84 MPH. Roberts se motivó a tocar con el polivalente Kike Hernández, que cumplió su misión magistralmente. Así, los Dodgers tuvieron una situación inmejorable para descontar e incluso irse arriba, pero ni Smith ni Gavin Lux --este último ya ante el derecho Tommy Kahnle-- supieron rentabilizarla.
Alex Vesia asumió por los Dodgers en la octava arriba, enfrentando una tanda mayoritariamente zurda con extraordinario rendimiento (recetó ponches consecutivos a Chisholm Jr. y luego a Rizzo). Kahnle, conocido por abusar --para bien en su caso-- de los envíos rompientes, regresó para la parte baja del octavo, dominando en primera instancia a Edman con rodado al campo corto. Acto seguido Ohtani pegó la segunda conexión más hermosa de la noche contra la cerca del derecho, llegando a tercera tras mala gestión defensiva de los Yankees. Mookie respondió para beneplácito de toda la fanaticada azul con sólido elevado de sacrificio atrapado por Judge en el central. Esto último ante los envíos de Luke Weaver, convocado por Boone para contener el ataque local. Yankees 2 - 2 Dodgers.
En la novena, con el barbudo Kopech en la lomita, el caraqueño Gleyber Torres cazó una recta que casi deposita en las graderías del jardín izquierdo, en jugada polémica que finalmente resultó en doble tras decretarse interferencia de un aficionado. El alto mando de Los Angeles decidió transferir a Soto para enfrentar a Judge, estrategia que le funcionó gracias a la victoria de Blake Treinen sobre el slugger. Weaver no se complicó en la parte baja de la novena, que comprendió la primera joya defensiva de Verdugo. "Béisbol gratis".

Ohtani then hit the second most beautiful connection of the night against the right field fence, reaching third after the Yankees' defensive mismanagement. Mookie responded to the delight of all the blue fans with a solid sacrifice fly caught by Judge in center. The latter against Luke Weaver, called by Boone to contain the local attack. Yankees 2 - 2 Dodgers.
In the ninth, with the bearded Kopech on the mound, the Caracas native Gleyber Torres hit a long connection that almost landed in the left field bleachers, in a controversial play that finally resulted in a double after interference from a fan was ruled. Los Angeles' top brass decided to transfer Soto to face Judge, a strategy that worked for them thanks to Blake Treinen's win over the slugger. Weaver was uncomplicated in the bottom of the ninth, which comprised Verdugo's first defensive gem. We got “free baseball.”

He started well by dominating catcher Smith, but transferred Lux, who had been unproductive on offense, and then allowed Edman's key hit to second base, although I give the responsibility for that action to Oswaldo Cabrera, who came in precisely to reinforce the defense.
Baseball will always give the fans a clutch moment with the best, and it was Ohtani's turn to protagonize the first of the inning. Boone's decision, criticized on ESPN's Spanish-language broadcast, was to bring in Cuban Néstor Cortés, trying to replicate here his historically good performance against the former Angels.
