Después del parón de verano este fin de semana nos reencontramos con la Fórmula 1 con el premio de los Países Bajos en el circuito de Zandvoort, casa de Max Verstappen. Durante este mes varias cosas han pasado en este mundo, la firma de pilotos con diferentes equipos de cara al 2025, la espera de otros para dar la noticia, Mercedes por ejemplo ya que todo el mundo está a la expectativa de quién será el segundo piloto pero lo más importante han sido el paquete de mejoras que algunos implementaron este fin de semana, entre ellos McLaren quienes de por si ya venían volando. Para mi fue un fin de semana que descalabró la Fórmula 1 ya que el golpe de autoridad que dió este equipo fue gigantesco.
After the summer break this weekend we meet again with Formula 1 with the Dutch Grand Prix at the Zandvoort circuit, home of Max Verstappen. During this month several things have happened in this world, the signing of drivers with different teams for 2025, the wait for others to give the news, Mercedes for example, since everyone is waiting for who will be the second driver but the most important thing has been the package of improvements that some implemented this weekend, including McLaren who already came flying. For me, it was a weekend that disqualified Formula 1, since the blow of authority given by this team was gigantic.
Todo esto comenzaba el día sábado, día de la clasificación en donde ya estábamos empezando a ver el dominio de Lando Norris con su vehículo con respecto a los demás. Es muy evidente que acá están pasando dos cosas: la mejora incuestionable de este monoplaza y el retroceso del RB20 de Verstappen al punto que el equipo no está haciendo mejoras sino que está buscando configuraciones pasadas para buscar que el auto sea el que fue hace no mucho a nivel competitivo y esto amigos, debería de tener nerviosos a Horner, Max y compañía. Tanto Q2 cómo la Q3 fueron ganadas por Norris con una diferencia de más de tres décimas, brecha que este mundo es muy grande. Verstappen quedaría de segundo y Piastri, otro que está haciendo muchos méritos, quedó de tercero.
All this started on Saturday, the day of qualifying where we were already starting to see the dominance of Lando Norris with his car with respect to the others. It is very evident that two things are happening here: the unquestionable improvement of this single-seater and the regression of Verstappen's RB20 to the point that the team is not making improvements but is looking for past configurations to make the car what it was not long ago at a competitive level and this, my friends, should make Horner, Max and company nervous. Both Q2 and Q3 were won by Norris with a difference of more than three tenths, gap that this world is very big. Verstappen was second and Piastri, another who is doing a lot of merits, was third.

Otras de las cosas que vimos en esta pole position fueron el bajo rendimiento de Mercedes, Hamilton más en específico, después de venir hilando unos muy buenos resultados en los últimos premios, Leclerc y Sainz tampoco se vieron bien de buenas a primeras y bueno, el mega choque de Sargeant que le costó no poder competir y unos cuantos millones del presupuesto a Williams. Lo dije a principio de la temporada, mantener a este piloto en la máxima categoría le iba a traer más problemas que alegrías a Williams y dicho y hecho, un completo desastre el norteamericano y que se dice por cierto que será reemplazado en Monza este fin de semana. La paciencia de Vowles parece no aguantar hasta el fin de la temporada.
Other things we saw in this pole position were the poor performance of Mercedes, Hamilton more specifically, after coming spinning some very good results in recent awards, Leclerc and Sainz also did not look good right off the bat and well, the mega crash of Sargeant that cost him not being able to compete and a few million of the budget to Williams. Habiendo visto todo esto llegábamos a la carrera del día de ayer, una que se esperaba fuera dominada, a pesar de lo visto con McLaren, por Max Verstappen y es que desde su regreso hace tres años al calendario de la Fórmula 1 ha sido dominada ampliamente por el neerlandés. La diferencia ahora es que tiene a una competencia que está mucho mejor y más estable por lo que fácil no iba a ser. Se apagaban las luces y el fantasma que siempre ha atormentado a Lando volvió a aparecer, ese que no le permite tener una buena salida, por una extraña razón siempre arranca flojo y destiempo y ayer no fue la excepción, Verstappen salió disparado y en menos de 200 metros ya estaba liderando la carrera sin mucho esfuerzo. La visión de que veríamos algo monótono comenzaba a surgir.

Zandvoort es un circuito en donde hay muchas curvas y las rectas son muy cortas por lo que adelantar no es imposible pero si es una tarea que se puede complicar. Este era el temor. La cosa es que al final terminó siendo un premio en donde las estrategias y el rendimiento de los neumáticos marcaron la pauta. Hay una cosa que no hizo Norris y fue desesperarse, él y el equipo sabían que tenían mejor ritmo que Max y que era cuestión de tiempo que uno empezara a decaer. Así fue, en apenas la vuelta 17 las gomas del Red Bull de Verstappen ya no daban más lo que permitió a Norris adelantarlo para ponerse a liderar el premio, posición que no perdería más. No es una sorpresa que Verstappen esté frustrado, ese carro no es ni la sombra de lo que era, siempre se está quejando, lo vemos irritado en las carreras, no está cómodo y eso es un problema.
Zandvoort is a circuit where there are many curves and the straights are very short so overtaking is not impossible but it is a task that can be complicated. This was the fear. The thing is that in the end it ended up being a race where strategies and tire performance set the tone. There is one thing that Norris did not do and that was to get desperate, he and the team knew that they had better pace than Max and that it was a matter of time before one of them started to fall off. So it was, in just lap 17 the tires of Verstappen's Red Bull were no longer giving more which allowed Norris to overtake him to get to lead the prize, a position that would not lose more. It is not a surprise that Verstappen is frustrated, that car is not even the shadow of what it was, he is always complaining, we see him irritated in the races, he is not comfortable and that is a problem.
A partir de acá todo se redujo en saber administrar las gomas. Muy rápidamente Norris ya le tenía una ventaja de 12 segundos a Max para que finalmente terminara siendo de más de 20, una absoluta barbaridad si me lo preguntan. La Ferrari, un equipo por el que nadie apostaba nada terminó haciendo una gran carrera, Leclerc supo contener a Piastri para así mantener el podio y Sainz escaló del puesto 10 al quinto. Los grandes perdedores fueron los pilotos de Mercedes, séptimo y octavo pero el tema con ellos era lo que se esperaba de ambos, quedaron atrás de McLaren, Red Bull y la Ferrari y esto en la carrera por el campeonato de constructores no es nada bueno. Al final fue una buena carrera que nos regaló buenas batallas, fue un poco lineal pero creo que compensa el hecho de que ganara Lando Norris y se demostrara que hay competencia en la Fórmula 1.
From here on it was all about managing the tires. Very quickly Norris already had a lead of 12 seconds to Max and finally ended up being more than 20, an absolute barbarity if you ask me. Ferrari, a team that nobody bet on, ended up doing a great race, Leclerc was able to contain Piastri to keep the podium and Sainz climbed from 10th to fifth place. The big losers were the Mercedes drivers, seventh and eighth but the issue with them was what was expected of both, they were behind McLaren, Red Bull and Ferrari and this in the race for the constructors' championship is not good at all. In the end it was a good race that gave us good battles, it was a bit linear but I think it compensates the fact that Lando Norris won and showed that there is competition in Formula 1.

Con estos resultados Norris se pone a 75 puntos de Max dejando ligeramente abierta la pelea por el campeonato. Mientras que en la lucha de equipos McLaren se pone a tan solo 30 puntos de Red Bull; a este paso es muy posible que el equipo naranja termine sobrepasando a los dirigidos por Horner. La próxima carrera este fin de semana en Italia, en Monza. Sin dudas la Fórmula 1 tiene más color que hace un par de meses.
With these results Norris is 75 points behind Max, leaving the fight for the championship slightly open. While in the teams' fight McLaren is only 30 points behind Red Bull; at this rate it is very possible that the orange team ends up surpassing Horner's team. The next race is this weekend in Italy, in Monza. Undoubtedly, Formula 1 has more color than a couple of months ago.
