Creo no equivocarme, la medalla de oro ganada por José Torres para la Argentina en BMX freestyle no era esperada por nadie aquí en mi país.
Si le preguntamos a cualquier argentino amante o no de los deportes, les dirán que las mayores posibilidades están en el fútbol, en el hockey femenino, quizás en la vela o en tenis, sabiendo además que ya no tienen posibilidades los muchachos del rugby seven, quizás la que se suponía más segura, pero como a seguro se lo llevaron preso, diría mi abuela, el rugby se fue bastante temprano y con la decepción marcada en los rostros de todos los jugadores, se sabían con grandes chances de obtener una medalla pero quedaron en cuartos de final y para colmo frente a Francia que la tiene con nosotros y continúa abucheando a cada compatriota que pisa un estadio. Feo.
Y hablando de irse temprano, la misma suerte está corriendo el equipo de voleibol masculino que ayer perdieron con Japón y se despidieron en fase de grupos. No vi el partido, aunque parece que hubo muchos fallos discutibles del arbitraje, no obstante, las posibilidades de nuestros muchachos nunca fueron claras, hay muchos equipos de gran nivel en este deporte.
Las que vienen pisando fuerte son las leonas del hockey femenino, 3 jugados y 3 ganados, ya tienen la clasificación asegurada a cuartos de final y con un poco de suerte estarán disputando una medalla como se preveía.
El fútbol tiene una parada muy brava hoy, desde las 16:00 de nuestro país jugarán en cuartos de final justamente con Francia, de más está decir que tendrán todo el estadio en contra y también al equipo francés que ven este encuentro como una especie de revancha de lo ocurrido en la final de Qatar en 2022, quizás un poco exagerado, pero si son felices con esto, adelante.
Volviendo a José "Maligno" Torres, un gran atleta de 29 años que todo lo que ha hecho y conseguido es gracias a su esfuerzo personal y la ayuda de algunos pocos, para poner en contexto su hazaña, podemos mencionar que solo cuenta con una bicicleta y algunos repuestos contra tres o cuatro que tienen sus más enconados rivales, el presupuesto no le dio para más. Este joven nació en Bolivia, sus padres que son argentinos, estaban temporalmente trabajando allí cuando el y su hermano mellizo llegaron al mundo, luego de un tiempo regresaron al país y se afincaron en la provincia de córdoba donde José comenzó a practicar este deporte que es muy nuevo en el programa olímpico habiendo hecho su debutando en Tokio 2020; es uno de los elegidos para atraer e integrar más jóvenes de ambos sexos a la justa mundial que se realiza cada cuatro años.
Otro deporte que comenzó su desarrollo en el día de hoy es el golf, aunque el programa completo será de cuatro días, aquí dos compatriotas, Emiliano Grillo y Alejandro Tosti compiten en busca de una medalla, aunque también para ellos será muy complicado, tienen como competidores a muchos grandes golfistas que semana a semana batallan en los principales circuitos profesionales del mundo como Scottie Scheffler, primero en el ranking mundial y Xander Schauffele, reciente ganador del British Open y defensor de la medalla de oro olímpica obtenida en Tokio 2020.
Todavía quedan unos cuantos días de competencia, seguimos siendo testigos de grandes hazañas deportivas y alguna que otra frustración y desencanto.
