Luego del parón veraniego del campeonato mundial de MotoGP, desde la última carrera en Silverstone el 06 de Agosto de 2023, este domingo 20 de Agosto se reanuda la actividad en pista con el Gran Premio de Austria, donde habrá una gran pelea entre los principales equipos por quedarse con la victoria, en una temporada que está siendo bastante disputada, más allá de dominio que ha mostrado los equipos con moto Ducati. Pero este fin de semana también tendremos lo que es la última competencia de la serie de la copa NASCAR en un circuito permanente, cuando la división mayor se medirá en el trazado de Watkins Glen.
La última victoria del campeonato de MotoGP fue para Aleix Espargaró, tras vencer en el Gran Premio de Gran Bretaña en Silverstone, en el trazado de 5.900 Kilómetros. La carrera de Austria es la fecha 10 del campeonato 2023, es decir, que luego quedarán 10 carreras más para conocer el campeón de la campaña de la categoría reina en cuenta al motociclismo se refiere. Recodar que cada fecha tiene dos carrera, la competencia corta de los días sábados y la carrera principal del domingo, por lo cual aún es que queda competencia en este año. También hay que recalcar que sí, Ducati, Aprilia, Pramac y Mooney VR46 (Todos con motos Ducati) son los que claramente han dominado la carrera, pero también es cierto que también KTM viene pisando fuerte, sobre todo Brad Binder quien tiene dos victorias en el año, en Argentina y España, ambas en carreras cortas. Esta segunda mitad puede ser vital para las aspiraciones para los pilotos de la marca austriaca, y nada mejor que demostrarlo en su casa, ya que serán los locales en Austria.
El Gran Premio de Austria 2023 se correrá en el circuito de Spielberg, que también se conoce como Red Bull Ring, ya que la marca de la bebida energética son los propietarios. La longitud del trazado es de 4326 km (2.688 millas) con un total de 11 curvas. La semana pasada también corrieron en un circuito, en Indianápolis, pero es bien sabido que esta utiliza la parte interna del mítico óvalo donde se da una de las competencias más importante del deporte motor, las 500 millas Indianápolis. El ganador de la anterior carrera en Indy fue Michael McDowell, con la cual logra su pase directo a las eliminatorias, lo que en inglés se conoce como Playoffs. Esta es la fecha 25 de la ronda regular, donde quedan dos para finalizar, incluyendo la de este fin de semana y la próxima que será en el súper óvalo de Daytona.
El circuito de Watkins Glen es un trazado que está situado en Watkins Glen, Schuyler, Nueva York, Estados Unidos. El fin de semana da comienzo con la única práctica libre a 45 minutos, esto el día sábado, donde además se llevará a cabo la clasificación. La carrera es el domingo 20 de Agosto en la cual se deben dar 90 vueltas al trazado de Watkins Glen, divididos en los acostumbrados tres segmentos, el primero y segundo a 20 vueltas, mientras que el tercero y último es a 50 giros. ¿Quién será el ganador de la última carrera en circuito permanente? pues esto lo sabremos este domingo a las 3:00pm ET de los Estados Unidos.
