Terminan las dos primeras jornadas de la eliminatorias para el mundial FIFA 2026. La selección vinotinto nos ha entregado, de la mano del argentino "Bocha" Batista, una mezcla agridulce de resultados tal como acostumbra en las primeras de cambio de cualquier eliminatoria. Más allá del consabido popular "las más difíciles del mundo", dada la ubicación y calidad de los diez equipos sudamericanos, es imposible clasificar a un mundial con lo demostrado en estos dos partidos.

Contra Paraguay las cosas fueron distintas. Y lo fueron porque hubo sustituciones de jugadores ausentes del partido contra Colombia. Me dispuse a ver el juego con mucha aprehensión porque he sido testigo de una cantidad extrema de decepciones. Es decir, sigo a la vinotinto desde antes de la era "Paéz" y recuerdo como si fuera ayer el mote de "la cenicienta de Sudamérica" Así las cosas, no puedo ver igual a nuestra selección que como la ve un joven, quienes pudieron ser testigos de mejores tiempos.
Y lo que parecía iba a ser un juego más al estilo "Farías" para aprovechar balonazos destinados a Salomón, fue trocando más en el juego de fluido, de posesión de balón y subidas por las bandas, obligados por la sapiencia de los centrales guaraníes, a quienes no se les ganará jamás por el aire. Y los albirrojos se sintieron felices de entregar la media cancha.
