Taking part in the Bull or Bear Grand Debate held in Ayala Malls, Central Bloc: New ideas and learnings about Web3

“Let’s go invent tomorrow instead of worrying about what happened yesterday.” – Steve Jobs

With the advent of technology around, one piece of information sent can do a greater impact. It was last June, 2023 when sir @ybanezkim26 sent an invitation through a link to those who are interested to join in the Bull or Bear Web3 Debate that will be held July 15, 2023. As a neophyte in this platform and very eager to learn something new about Web3, commit to the said event, and access a ticket pass through the given link. I bought the ticket online in the amount of Php250.00 or 4.60 USD.

Last Saturday, July 15, 2023, where the event was successfully held at Ayala Malls, Central Bloc, Cebu. It was my first time going to the place. Although I am from Cebu, never did I had time to go and visit the newly built Ayala Mall located near IT Park. At first, I was hesitant to go to the place because I don't know where to ride a jeepney or taxi and might lose in going there.

But because I had purchased the ticket already and I wanted also to learn new pieces of information upon hearing the event title, I let my fear set aside and go to the event.

I went to the city around 10:00 am to maximize the time roaming around the city and familiarize myself with where to ride for a jeepney or taxi. With the help of google maps, I arrived at Ayala Malls, Central Bloc earlier than the time of the event.

The Venue...
The Bull or Bear Grand Debate was held in Ayala Malls, Central Bloc. It was my first time in the place so I took the opportunity to roam around the place.

After roaming around outside the venue, I went to the event center to check the event. The event was organized by Bitskwela, in coordination with the DICT (Department of Information and Computer Technology) and partnership with Hive, Bitget, Tekkon, and CoinW, supported by different agencies like Ayala Malls, GCash, Philippines Airlines, Sphera Solution and more.

When we arrive at the events center, the organizers asked for the ticket pass and scanned our tickets, and there you go, you have access to roam around the place. Before the event started, we are glad to roam around the place and go to the different partner's booths to learn about their different project. Together with Sir @ybanezkim26, @indayclara, Sir @intoy.bugoy, Sir @glecerioberto, ma'am @dehai, ma'am @ciadanmea, ma'am @jobeliever, and ma'am @hapyoung, we took the opportunity to know the booths on the side.

I was surprised by the number of participants at the venue. Different nationalities are attending the event, I can see foreigners and locals who are willing to learn all about Web3. Some are even professionals and there are also students coming to the event.

In the event center, there I meet ma'am @hapyoung, sir @intoy.bugoy, and sir @glecerioberto. I am happy to meet them.

The Different Partner's Booths
On the side, you can see a lot of people going to the different booths. There I meet personally Sir @nathansenn and Sir @kenny.rogers from DBuzz who are very approachable and very eager to teach those who will approach them about their project.

As a token of appreciation, those who are coming to their booth will be given free merch- a t-shirt and a sticker from DBuzz. Luckily, I got one from their booth. And there I meet personally sir @nathansenn who is very dedicated to discussing their project and how to play the Splinter land game as well.

As the event started, we find our comfortable sit and willingly listen to the speakers on stage.

The event started with the singing of the Philippine National Anthem in partnership with the Manila Times. One thing that I adore about the event, is the host in the person of Miss Kesh Morales is very well-versed about the event and very spontaneous. Also, she is part of the blockchain since 2021.

Afterward, she then introduced Sir Aaron Lay, a fresh graduate from Ateneo De Manila University, yet he is already one of the Bitskwela Core Contributors, an independent Fund Manager, and has 7 years of experience in trading.

He shared what is Web3 all about in three key points, Web3 is a decentralized internet, an ownership economy, and an internet that uses crypto. He further explained what is cryptocurrency all about.

Another key person on stage is Miss Raine Laluna from Sphera Solutions. And she is also one of the co-founders of Bitskwela. She expressed how lucky we are from Cebu that the Bull or Bear Debate is held for it's not all the provinces yet hosted this event. It's the fourth province to host this one-of-a-kind debate.

Also, their partners were given a short time to share their projects before the debate started. The first to share their project is Sir @nathansenn of Hive. He strongly points out that a lot of things to learn about Web3 and there are a lot of applications, tools, and even games and services that use Hive.

Whether we like it or not, yes I agree, with the advent of technology, we should also be equipped with the knowledge of what Web3 is all about because as time goes by, developers are making the technology soar high.

Next to share about their project are Sir Jeffrey Sanz of Bitget, Sir Crypto Pareh of Tekkon, and Sir Jearon Wong of CoinW. They also shared key points about their project on stage. And one thing in common is let's make use of the technology around us. A lot of opportunities we can do to learn and earn at the same time with the help of technology.

The Debaters
It was around 7:30 in the evening when the friendly debate started.

From left to right, Sir Donald Lim, Blockchain Council of the Philippines; Ma'am Ashley Sandoval, a creator/entrepreneur; Sir Nathan Senn of the HIVE & Dbuzz; Coach Miranda Miner of Global Miranda Miner Group; Sir Tyrone Bretana Head of Tier One Alliance; and Sir Giu Comia, a content creator.

All of them are given a set of questions that they will answer if it's Bull or Bear. Every debater shared his/her stand on the topic. There were six questions given and everyone shared their friendly stand on the topic. The debate ended with a lot of learnings to share with the audience. Our country is trying the best it can do about the high-speed internet and the advancement of technology not to be left out from other countries but it's our responsibility to use it in good ways and not the other way around. The audience was also given the chance to be heard if they are on the Bullish or Bearish side by casting their votes on the link provided by the organizers.

As a first-timer attending this friendly debate, I was so overwhelmed with the learnings gained from the debaters. And the input shared a while ago about Web3 and cryptocurrency. With the technology around us, let's continue to grow, learn and earn at the same time.

That's all for today's blog my Hive friends.

Have a nice day everyone!
