Siargao Island was the first to be hit by typhoon Odette when it made its first landfall. There was no electricity and water supply when we reached the island. All business establishments and residences were damage including government buildings. The internet was not stable and in some areas it was not available.
This is the unfinished port where we landed to the island. The commercial port was not available.
You can see smoke from afar as people burn their rubble to clean their land.
The once lush green islands looked like burnt or dried lumps of lands.
Coconut trees fell down.
An eerie feeling I felt as I saw the damages.
The famous Cloud was not in sight.
The mountains were not green anymore.
Luckily the rice fields were not heavily damaged.
Coastal areas suffered the worst.
Despite the devastation, the sun still rises giving hope to the Siargaonons. We stayed at the island for a month to give relief aids.
