A veces, el diseño simplificado de personajes puede reforzar las características o la personalidad de este.
Esta vez, quise dibujar a Yamagakake conocido en la versión en español de Daiku Maryu Gaiking como Tonina.
Él es un ex luchador de lucha libre japonesa, que se unió a la tripulación porque quería que el Dr. Koga, su benefactor, lo viera luchando por la humanidad contra los invasores del espacio.
Tonina tiene asignado el Jet Tanque, una unidad de combate en tierra. El Jet Tanque tiene cierta remembranza a los dragones japoneses.
El diseño de Tonina es bastante simplificado si lo comparamos con el resto de los personajes, sin embargo, esa simplificación refuerza su personalidad: él luce como una persona temible y severa pero realmente tiene muy buen corazón y es muy sensible. Es quien le pone el toque de humor a la serie, sin embargo, tiene sus momentos de demostrar sus habilidades y su lado heroico.
Lo dibujé en una de sus poses de pelea de lucha en su traje de combate, aunque en muchas escenas, èl sale vistiendo en la manera tradicional de los luchadores. A pesar que es bastante simple, me tomó algo de tiempo captar bien las proporciones de su cuerpo, el cual luce bastante caricaturizado.
Para el escenario, tomé como referencia una escena donde están en una isla. Me gustó mucho el atardecer en esa escena así que aproveché la oportunidad para practicarlo.
Ya con él he dibujado a los siguientes tripulantes: Pete, Gene y ahora Tonina. Aún me faltan 5 para completarlos!

Sometimes simplified character design can reinforce a character's traits or personality.
This time, I wanted to draw Yamagakake known in the Spanish version of Daiku Maryu Gaiking as Tonina.
He is a former Japanese wrestler, who joined the crew because he wanted Dr. Koga, his benefactor, to see him fighting for humanity against space invaders.
Tonina is assigned to the Jet Tank, a ground combat unit. The Jet Tank has a certain remembrance of Japanese dragons.
Tonina's design is quite simplified if we compare him with the rest of the characters, however, this simplification reinforces his personality: he looks like a scary and severe person but he really has a very good heart and is very sensitive. He is the one who adds a touch of humor to the series, however, he has his moments to demonstrate his skills and his heroic side.
I drew him in one of his wrestling poses in his combat outfit, although in many scenes, he is dressed in traditional wrestling fashion. Although it's quite simple, it took me a while to get a good grasp of the proportions of his body, which looks quite cartoonish.
For the scenario, I took a scene where they are on an island as a reference. I really liked the sunset in that scene so I took the opportunity to practice it.
With it I have already drawn the following crew members: Pete, Gene and now Tonina. I still have 5 left to complete them!
