This was once a medium sized town and the capital of the Iceni tribe.
There is a map at the entrance to this area with an illustration of what the town is believed to have once looked like based on archaeological evidence. It was first found by accident in 1928 but was not fully dug out until 2009.
All that remains are small banks of earth around the perimeter (presumably for defence) now marked by hedges and also a few surviving parts of the outside boundary wall (see image two).
