Today I come here with the intention of participating in a special contest promoted by the #Humanitas community together with @hispapro. As we are in the month of terror and then comes November where we pay homage to the dead, then #Humanitas has motivated us to talk about a topic that is very little discussed and that is death. Specifically, the contest is about What would your epitaph say?

Para nadie es un secreto, que pasamos toda nuestra vida huyéndole al tema de la muerte, y que resulta ser un punto que nos causa un poco de miedo; pero, la verdad es que todos los seres vivos nacemos, nos desarrollamos, nos reproducimos, para finalmente morir. Esto nos lleva a concluir que lo más seguro que tenemos es la muerte, y todos lo vamos a experimentar, entonces creo que debería ser un tema común, sin tanto miedo de conversarlo.
Ya en esta comunidad saben mi condición religiosa, lo que me lleva a amar la vida y a ser pro-vida (es decir amar la vida de las plantas, animales y humanos) pero también debemos prepararnos para ese momento en el que dejaremos esta tierra. Algo muy importante de acotar es que no sabemos cómo es la muerte, pues nadie ha venido a contarnos; pero creo fielmente en la palabra de Dios y siento que es lo más sano para nosotros; pues la biblia se refiere a la muerte como un sueño, que todos los días cuando dormimos ensayamos para la muerte y que cada despertar es un milagro, esto nos incentiva a vivir cada día como si fuese el último.
It is no secret that we spend our whole lives running away from the subject of death, and that it turns out to be a point that causes us some fear; but the truth is that all living beings are born, we develop, we reproduce, and finally we die. This leads us to conclude that the most certain thing we have is death, and we are all going to experience it, so I think it should be a common theme, without being so afraid to talk about it.
Already in this community they know my religious condition, which leads me to love life and to be pro-life (i.e. to love the life of plants, animals and humans) but we must also prepare ourselves for that moment when we will leave this earth. Something very important to note is that we do not know what death is like, because no one has come to tell us; but I believe faithfully in the word of God and I feel that it is the healthiest thing for us; because the bible refers to death as a dream, that every day when we sleep we rehearse for death and that each awakening is a miracle, this encourages us to live each day as if it were our last.

Pero ¿Cómo debemos vivir nuestra vida? Debemos vivir en santidad, y no quiere decir que seamos santos y perfectos. Vivir en santidad se refiere a ser personas integras, sin hacerle daño a nadie, se trata de saber y entender que mis derechos acaban cuando violento los de otras personas, que el mundo es mejor cuando decidimos cambiar de corazón y ayudar a quien lo necesite; es de ésta manera es como debemos vivir cada día, para que cuando el momento de partir llegue, podamos irnos en paz con nosotros mismos.
Ahora bien, la pregunta central de este concurso es ¿Qué diría nuestro epitafio? Y antes de responder la pregunta central, es importante aclarar ¿Qué es un epitafio? Según Significados.com se trata de “una inscripción en la lápida o placa del sepulcro de un fallecido para conmemorar su vida”. Se trata de una pequeña reflexión o resumen de la vida de la persona que murió, donde se reflejan logros, hazañas esos aportes y enseñanzas que les dejo a las personas que estuvieron cerca de él o ella en vida.
But how should we live our life? We must live in holiness, and it does not mean that we are holy and perfect. Living in holiness refers to being a person of integrity, without harming anyone, it is about knowing and understanding that my rights end when I violate those of other people, that the world is better when we decide to change our hearts and help those who need it; this is how we should live each day, so that when the time to leave comes, we can go in peace with ourselves.
Now, the central question of this contest is what would our epitaph say? And before answering the central question, it is important to clarify what is an epitaph? According to Meanings.com it is “an inscription on the tombstone or grave marker of a deceased to commemorate his life” . It is a small reflection or summary of the life of the person who died, where achievements are reflected, those contributions and teachings that he left to the people who were close to him or her in life.
