Salir del pantano [ESP//ENG] || OPINION

Siendo todavía un niño, recuerdo que la lectura era una de las actividades más atesoradas por este servidor. Mi madre, favorecía nuestra adicción a éste pasatiempo comprando cuanta enciclopedia le ofrecían a plazos, de modo que nuestra biblioteca en casa era un auténtico mundo aparte. Una de esas colecciones respondía preguntas elementales de la vida y ofrecía una visión del mundo que no habíamos visto en ningún lugar, se llamaba: "El mundo de los niños" Dentro de ella, había un volúmen que mostraba las maravillas geográficas de manera profusa, recuerdo haber soñado con conocer la mayoría de ellas y de cierta manera nos lo propusimos.

Por allá en el año 1999, tuvimos la fortuna de viajar por enésima vez a la unión americana. Era nuestra costumbre en ese tiempo, tomar un vehículo de alquiler y manejar hasta el cansancio para recorrer ese país. Mi madre y mi hermana nos acompañaron a mi esposa y a mí en aquel periplo. Fue cuando conocimos el estado de Georgia, la ciudad de Atlanta y una de esas maravillas que había visto en aquella enciclopedia. Es un parque nacional llamado "Okefenokee" y se caracteriza por ser un enorme pantano, al cual debes navegar para apreciar la naturaleza agreste, dura y pura.

When I was still a child, I remember that reading was one of the most treasured activities for this server. My mother favored our reading addiction by buying every encyclopedia offered in installments, so that our library at home was a real world apart. One of those collections answered basic questions of life and offered a vision of the world that we had not seen anywhere, it was called: "The world of children" Inside it, there was a volume that showed the geographical wonders in a profuse way, I remember having dreamed of knowing most of them and in a certain way we proposed it.

Back in 1999, we had the fortune to travel for the umpteenth time to the American Union. It was our custom at that time, to take a rental car and drive until we were exhausted to tour that country. My mother and sister accompanied my wife and me on that trip. That was when we got to know the state of Georgia, the city of Atlanta and one of those wonders I had seen in that encyclopedia. It was a national park called "Okefenokee" and it is characterized for being a huge swamp, which you have to navigate to appreciate the wild, hard and pure nature.

¿Por qué fuimos allí? La manera como el escritor del libro capturó nuestra imaginación, nos pareció algo maravilloso, al punto de cimentar el deseo por conocer esa maravilla natural. La voz india "Okefenokee" significa "lugar donde la tierra tiembla" y la realidad es que allí la tierra nunca temblaba. El nombre nace por las ondas circulares formadas por las aguas pantanosas, al escapar el gas metano debajo del agua, dando una apariencia al lugar parecida a cualquier cuerpo de agua que se estremece cuando tiembla la tierra ¿Recuerdan cuando se acercaba el T-Rex de "Jurassic Park" y se acercaba al auto donde estaba el vaso de agua? Bueno, algo parecido.

Pero lo que más nos llamó la atención del paseo en lancha fue lo etéreo del ambiente. A éste servidor le estremeció. Imaginaba perderme en ese lugar. Y con todo lo que está pasando en Venezuela, por momentos, hemos hecho paralelismos con aquella experiencia. Imaginen que estamos en un pantano. Todas las dificultades para avanzar dentro de él, son las mismas que han creado quienes nos gobiernan. Y, sin embargo, estamos avanzando hacia la salida de ese pantano. Claro, la desesperanza es el arma más poderosa que tiene un lugar como ese, pero la fe inquebrantable de que saldremos de él, ha sido el mejor remedio.

Why did we go there? The way the writer of the book captured our imagination, we found something wonderful, to the point that it cemented the desire to know this natural wonder. The Indian word "Okefenokee" means "place where the earth trembles" and the reality is that the earth never trembled there. The name comes from the circular waves formed by the swampy waters, as methane gas escapes under the water, giving the place an appearance similar to any body of water that trembles when the earth trembles. Remember when the T-Rex from "Jurassic Park" approached the car where the glass of water was? Well, something similar.

But what struck us most about the boat ride was the ethereal atmosphere. This server was shaken. I imagined getting lost in that place. And with everything that is happening in Venezuela, at times, we have made parallels with that experience. Imagine we are in a swamp. All the difficulties to move forward in it are the same that those who govern us have created. And yet, we are moving towards the exit of that swamp. Of course, hopelessness is the most powerful weapon in such a place, but unshakable faith that we will get out of it has been the best remedy.

Alguien nos pidió moderar lo compartido y le respondí ¿Qué más nos pueden quitar? Cuando has estado empantanado por tanto tiempo, no solo antes (por la cantidad de dificultades por las que pasa un emprendedor para echar adelante una empresa), sino después (por las enormes cargas fiscales y parafiscales que significaron la puntilla mortal para el negocio), cualquier oportunidad de salir librados de ese pantano tenemos que aprovecharla. Por los millones de personas que lograron salir pero al costo de no ver de nuevo a sus familias, por la simple razón de que la libertad es un derecho humano inalienable. Simple.

Y quienes creen que van a venir de afuera a "salvarnos" se equivocan, tal como se equivocan quienes creen que no saldremos del pantano. Cuando TODA una sociedad se pone de acuerdo y se une alrededor de una idea -más aún- cuando la verdad asiste y refuerza esa idea, no hay poder humano que la pueda resistir. Y saldremos del pantano pese a él. Siempre estará allí para recordarnos que podemos regresar a él, en el momento que no trabajemos por la democracia. Una palabra hermosa, pero que puede perderse si no aprovechamos el momentum. Seguir a los líderes que nos guían, esa es la manera de salir del pantano. Fuerza y fe.

Someone asked us to moderate what we shared and I answered: "What else can they take away from us? When you have been bogged down for so long, not only before (because of the amount of difficulties an entrepreneur has to go through to start a business), but after (because of the enormous fiscal and parafiscal burdens that meant the death knell for the business), any opportunity to get out of that swamp we have to take advantage of it. For the millions of people who managed to get out but at the cost of not seeing their families again, for the simple reason that freedom is an inalienable human right. Simple.

And those who believe that they will come from outside to "save us" are wrong, just as those who believe that we will not get out of the swamp are wrong. When an ENTIRE society agrees and unites around an idea -moreover- when the truth assists and reinforces that idea, there is no human power that can resist. And we will get out of the quagmire in spite of him. It will always be there to remind us that we can return to it, the moment we do not work for democracy. A beautiful word, but one that can be lost if we do not seize the momentum. Follow the leaders who guide us, that is the way out of the swamp. Strength and faith.
