Historically speaking, times are different from what we perceive. We have very short lives, 60 years is a long time from our perspective. But historically, it is a snap of the fingers. I believe that as individuals we have to be awake to the suffering of others and have an open mind to change. Advances obviously generate resistance. But if history shows us anything, it is that changes are inevitable.
Los tiempos a nivel histórico son diferentes a lo que percibimos. Tenemos vidas muy cortas, 60 años es mucho para nuestra perspectiva. Pero a nivel histórico es un chasquido de dedos. En Estados Unidos por ejemplo hasta 1965 no se pudo finalizar con la segregación efectivamente. Si, en medio de la sociedad “civilizada” ya avanzado el siglo XX. Las personas de color no podían asistir a los mismos bares que los blancos o compartir el autobus con ellos.
Hace escasos 15 años, ya en el siglo 21, frases como “el lugar de la mujer es la cocina” no eran repudiadas y hasta eran algo que generaba gracia. Hoy día también sucede, pero son usualmente repudiados por la sociedad. A la mujer se la trataba de manera despectiva, no ocupaban puestos de poder. Ni siquiera pudieron emitir sufragio hasta mucho tiempo después. También en su cotidianidad su realidad era limitada a la de limpiar el hogar, dar a luz, cuidar a los niños y complacer a su marido. Todo con una sonrisa. Incluso muchas publicidades y películas de la época muestran esta obvia disparidad entre ambos géneros. Creo que decir que la mujer era tratada como un ciudadano de segunda es una declaración bien fundamentada. Ni hablar si aparte de mujer, eras de color, y si ademas pobre; dios te libre si tenías la osadía de ser lesbiana.
Creo que si bien nadie tiene la culpa, el hombre debe ser consciente de que tenía derechos que nuestros pares no gozaron. Si aún así, siendo hombre crees que tu vida fue injusta y difícil, si fueras mujer te aseguro que sería aún peor. Fueron educadas con otros parámetros completamente diferentes a los nuestros. En medio de un contexto sumamente opresor, pero también naturalizado como si fuera lo correcto. Pero siempre hay reacción violenta ante una presión. Como una banda elástica que con el tiempo encuentra más y más resistencia al estirarse. El estallido como respuesta es el único desenlace esperable. Esto tambien sucedió al legislarse el divorcio, terminar la esclavitud y las castas de clase. Ante cada acto de opresión, un acto de liberación más virulento es la respuesta natural del sistema a lo largo de la historia. No maten al mensajero, sólo me limito a describir eventos y sucesos que creo irrefutables.
Sin embargo en estas épocas de opresión naturalizada ya había quienes peleaban al sistema. Cómo la norma es la que dictamina, estás luchadoras eran humilladas y tratadas con desdén. Pero indoblegables continuaron su siembra que recién pudieron cosechar las generaciones futuras.
Creo que como individuos tenemos que estar despiertos al sufrir del prójimo y tener una mente abierta a los cambios. Los avances obviamente generan resistencias. Pero si la historia nos demuestra algo es que los cambios son inevitables.
