Converted this is roundabout 950,- EURO and indeed that nowadays is not much money here in my part of the world.
The so-called "poverty line" in Austria for a one person household in 2021 is 1.371,- EUR.
So if you earn less than 1.441,- USD in Austria, you enter the so called "poverty possibility zone", a word I just heard for the first time. This is probably the income threshold at which you can just come around for a month, but unexpected repairs or new purchases, for example a washing machine, can quickly lead you into debt spiral.
I suspect that this limit will be raised sharply in 2022, since prices are exploding here as well, like everywhere else in the world.
What could one do with 1000,- USD monthly salary in Austria?
Well, probably that would be just enough to rent an apartment, pay heating, water and electricity. Not much more. And it would be difficult to find an appartment for that price, depending on in wich city you live.
One would have to have luck, to unite with several to a flat community and be very careful with the purchase, then I think one could live from it for a month.
In summary: having only 1000,- USD per month is not much here. Is too little here.

@bhattg stellt diese Frage in seinem aktuellen India United Contest und da ich mit einem Kommentar auf einen seiner früheren Postings die Inspiration für diese Frage war, kann ich natürlich nicht anders, und freue mich an dem Contest teilzunehmen.
Was sind 1000,- USD wert?
Umgerechnet sind das in etwas 950,- EURO und in der Tat ist das hier in meinem Teil der Welt heutzutage nicht mehr viel Geld.
Die sogenannte Armutsgrenze in Österreich liegt für einen ein Personen Haushalt im Jahr 2021 bei 1.371,- EUR.
Wer also in Österreich unter 1.441,- USD verdient, der betritt damit die sogenannte "Armutsgefährdungsschwelle", ein Wort, das ich soeben zum ersten mal gehört habe. Das ist wohl diese Einkommensgrenze, bei der man gerade so über die Runden kommt, aber unerwartete Reparaturen oder Neuanschaffungen, zum Beispiel einer Waschmaschine, schnell in die Schuldenfalle führen können.
Ich vermute für das Jahr 2022 wird diese Grenze stark angehoben werden, da die Preise auch hier, wie überall auf der Welt, gerade explodieren.
Was könnte man tun mit 1000,- USD monatlichem Gehalt in Österreich?
Nun, wahrscheinlich würde das gerade mal für die Miete einer Wohnung mit den Nebenkosten reichen. Mehr nicht.
Man müsste Glück haben, sich mit Mehreren zu einer Wohngemeinschaft zusammentun und beim Einkauf sehr achtsam sein, dann denke ich könnte man davon einen Monat lang leben.
Zusammenfassend: nur 1000,- USD im Monat zu haben ist hier nicht viel. Ist hier zu wenig.
