Streetart from home #1: Straatkapers: Het rode bolletje

After posting murals from my favorite city, i think it's time to also start showing streetart from my home town, Veenendaal.

We have one 'real' crew that i am aware of, called the Straatkapers, and i am finding more and more murals done by these guys around town. So lets start with one of my favorites, 'het rode bolletje' (the little red ball).

The pool

Just some brief history about het rode bolletje. Our local pool (zwembad de vallei) and sport complex was 'famous' (kinda, but people from surrounding cities new which pool you meant when naming this little red ball) for its outdoor waterslide which was shaped like a crossing between a red ball and a duck.

The complex nearly went bankrupt back in 2007 and did a major overhaul that year. During that overhaul the waterslide became redundant and disappeared, and over the years the visitors count went down, until in 2017 they launched a campaign to gain visitors, and it's main icon became the waterslide aka het rode bolletje.

The Artists

The Het rode bolletje murals, indoor and outdoor are done by the streetart collective known as De Straatkapers (roughly translates to The overtakers of the Streets) with artists KEML29, Ash, Cruse and PoPcorn. They have there home base in Veenendaal, and more and more of there artwork is popping up around the city, outside and in stores.

The Artwork

Inside the restaurant of the complex you will find this mural representing 'het rode bolletje' as its former self, a waterslide.

Signature

On the outside of the building you can find this mural also done by De Straatkapers. It measures 10 meters in height, and 27 meters in width. And according to the Straatkapers the biggest mural they have done to date.
With on the right, the slide itself, overlooking the outside minigolf and swimming pool. And enjoying its pension!
