Liteiny Prospekt courtyards, art and street art

Some urban graffiti has long been among my favourites. One of my favourites is a girl with an iron in the courtyard of an old apartment building on Liteiny Prospekt (Liteyny Avenue). We found this graffiti a few years ago during a walk with my friends. It was a great walk and this graffiti was just one of many experiences.

I really liked the artistic style of the author of this work, and I subsequently did an internet search to find out his name. The artist Kirill Vedernikov is not only known for his graffiti, he also works in more traditional fields. You can visit an exhibition of this artist's works, which are periodically held in different cities. But interaction with urban space is an important part of this artist's work.

Last year Kirill Vedernikov created several murals, but I can only judge these works from photographs, they appeared in other cities: Murmansk, Irkutsk, Vladimir. As far as I know, no new works have appeared in St Petersburg. I decided to walk through the courtyards near Liteiny Prospekt to check out the artist's old works and see if they have survived. The first work is located in a large courtyard between Liteiny Prospekt and Pestel Street. The second graffiti is located in the labyrinth of courtyards of Manezhny Lane, it is called "Woman from Babylon".

"Don Quixote" was located on the corner of Mokhovaya Street, but this work was painted over by housing workers. I was also unable to find another small piece of graffiti - an iron in the neighbourhood yards. I didn't limit myself to just looking for graffiti, I also looked at architectural details. I noticed that the window sill of one of the windows was decorated with miniature stone flowers.

On Ryleev Street I saw another work by this artist, it is called "The Old King". There was one more address left on my address list. I hope that this work is all right, but I could not see it - it is located in the courtyard behind a locked gate. I did make it to this location in the hope that by some fluke the gate would be open, but I was out of luck. Zatoja took a picture of the pretty balcony nearby. The architectural decorations under the balcony are arranged in a bizarre way, it's quite difficult to decide where the bottom of the composition is and where the top is. In the same house, the wooden front door is decorated with carvings.

During the walk I also came across several works by other authors. The animals look like cartoon characters or heroes of a children's fairy tale, but I don't know which one. The text on the wall is "Mum loves you." The final image, a composition on the wall of a transformer box, refers to the nearby Sabbath Theatre.
