Today, we're going to talk about an unconventional art gallery the Usine 106U because it's self-managed by the artists who exhibit there. What's more, the two walls are covered in strange and mysterious works, as you'll see.

Aujourd'hui, nous allons parlé d'une galerie d'art non conventionnelle l'Usine 106U car elle est autogérée par les artistes qui y exposent. De plus, les deux murs extérieurs sont couverts d'œuvres étranges et mystérieuses comme vous allez le constater.

WHERE

The Usine 106U is located at 160 rue Roy in Montreal, in an all-blue building that also houses a friendly bar called Else's, perfect spot for a Guinness.

L'Usine 106U se trouve au 160 rue Roy à Montréal dans un immeuble tout bleu ou se trouve aussi un bar assez sympathique pour prendre une bonne Guinness le Else's.

Pasco aka Pascale Gagnon-Ferrand, artist and muralist, with this eye house.

Just below, it's John Lanthier who likes to make "psychedelic hyperdoodles". He also exhibits at the gallery.

The art gallery Usine 106U was founded in 2006 by Eric Braün, Karine Fournier and Mimi Traillette to have a place to sell their work for just 1 week in a local attic. But their success forced them to change addresses and set up shop more permanently.

L'Usine 106U a été fondée en 2006 par Eric Braün, Karine Fournier et Mimi Traillette pour avoir un endroit pour vendre leurs œuvres pendant 1 semaine seulement dans un grenier du quartier. Mais face au succès, ils durent changer d'adresses pour s'installer plus durablement.

The current location is the third where exhibitions are held. The whole building is painted like the windows around the front door with, on the right (photo 🔽), a funny worm done by Bezo, a self-taught artist.

L'emplacement actuel est le troisième ou se déroule des expositions. Tout le batiment est peint comme sous les fenêtres qui entourent la porte d'entrée avec sur la droite (photo 🔽), un drôle de ver de terre par Bezo, un artiste autodidacte.

I really like this really strange "hand" with a wolf's head-shaped finger and this hourglass hanging on the back. It's hard to work out what it means...
FR : J'aime beaucoup cette "main" vraiment étrange avec un doigt en forme de tête de loup et ce sablier accroché dans le dos. Pas évident de trouver une signification...

And above it, there's this sign with four equally bizarre heads.

FR : Et au dessus, il y a cette enseigne avec ces quatre têtes toutes aussi bizarres les unes des autres.

To exhibit in the gallery for a month, all you have to do is pay $50 and the gallery takes 10% of sales. Quite interesting for an artist who wants to make a name for himself. There are many strange works, including sculptures made from animal bones or old broken toys...

Pour exposer dans la galerie pour un mois, il suffit verser 50$ et la galerie prend 10% des ventes. Plutôt intéressant pour un artiste qui veut se faire connaitre. Il y a beaucoup d'œuvres assez étranges même des sculptures faites à partir d'ossements d'animaux ou de vieux jouets cassés...

On the other wall in a small garden, the first work is by Daniel Erban, an artist who died in 2017. He loved to paint the problems and horrors of our times. Unfortunately, he would still have many subjects to paint today.

Sur l'autre mur qui donne dans un petit jardin, la première œuvre est de Daniel Erban, artiste décédé en 2017. Il aimait peindre les problèmes et les horreurs de notre époques. Il aurait malheureusement encore beaucoup de sujets à peindre aujourd'hui.

Right next door 🔼, we still find Pasco. Near the window, there's Medusa's signature (more info on this artist on StreetArt #632 at the last Under Pressure festival). As for the other works, I'm not sure. However, at the very bottom 🔽, it's El Rey MAJ aka Marc-André Jutras (on StreetArt #513 to see a beautiful mural by him).

Juste à coté 🔼, on retrouve encore Pasco. Près de la fenêtre, il y a la signature de Medusa (plus d'info sur cette artiste sur StreetArt #632 lors du dernier festival Under Pressure). Pour les autres œuvres, je ne sais pas trop. Par contre tout au fond 🔽, il s'agit El Rey MAJ aka Marc-André Jutras (sur StreetArt #513 pour voir une belle murale de sa part).
