Oman is divided into eleven governorates; Muscat, Musandam, Dhofar, Al-Buraimi, Al-Batinah North and South, Ash-Sharqiyyah North and South, Al-Wusta, and Adh-Dhahirah. These governorates are divided into a further 61 administrative divisions or provinces referred to as wilayats.

Barka is one of the various locations along the Batinah coast where you can see the traditional Omani sport of bull-butting. Contests are between large Brahma bulls, traditionally fed up on a diet of milk and honey. Animals are opted by the villagers according to weight and led into the area to do battle, at which point (all being well) they will lock horns – although some bulls just turn around and run away, frantically pursued by their owners. The winning bull is the one which either pushes the other to the ground or forces it to give up its ground. Most of the fights last less than five minutes, and ropes are attached to the bulls mean that they can be pulled apart.

This event held on Fridays during the winter months from around 4pm, lasting a couple of hours and attracting a good-natured, but exclusively male, audience. Contests alternate on a weekly basis between Sohar, Shinas, Barka and Seeb.

Barka’s is only 60 km form the capital of the Sultanate of Oman Muscat.

Barka ist einer der verschiedenen Orte entlang der Küste von Batinah, an denen Sie den traditionellen omanischen Sport des Stierstoßes sehen können. Die Wettbewerbe finden zwischen großen Brahma-Bullen statt, die traditionell genug von Milch und Honig haben. Die Tiere werden von den Dorfbewohnern nach Gewicht ausgewählt und in die Gegend geführt, um dort zu kämpfen. An diesem Punkt (alles in Ordnung) werden sie Hörner sperren - obwohl einige Bullen sich einfach umdrehen und weglaufen, verzweifelt von ihren Besitzern verfolgt. Der siegreiche Bulle ist derjenige, der den anderen entweder zu Boden drückt oder ihn zwingt, seinen Boden aufzugeben. Die meisten Kämpfe dauern weniger als fünf Minuten, und an den Bullen befestigte Seile bedeuten, dass sie auseinandergezogen werden können.

Diese Veranstaltung fand in den Wintermonaten freitags ab ca. 16 Uhr statt, dauerte einige Stunden und zog ein gutmütiges, aber ausschließlich männliches Publikum an. Die Wettbewerbe wechseln wöchentlich zwischen Sohar, Shinas, Barka und Seeb.
