Satla Beel: The Kingdom of Red Lilies

The beautiful morning was become more beautiful while we arrived at the Kingdom of waterlily! There were hundreds of thousands Water Lily was blooming at the Lake and we were so much excited! We went just before the Sunrise! There's two reason basically to be there before sunrise, If you go after sunrise you won’t be able to see that many Flowers down there as they don’t like sunlight and other reason is people pick them to eat or sell.

Beautiful Sunrise

So we had to go before sunrise and found a little boat down there, actually two boards for six of us (including the boatman). We were there for a couple of hours and enjoyed a lot we have seen the sunrise, the village life and of course the national flower of Bangladesh- the White Waterlily.

Basically there is a road down there and the Lake is one side of the road and the other side there is a beautiful River. So the road itself beautiful, so many trees on both side of the road and of course while you are near to the lake during the flower season you would not able to see the water from road but the lilies.

I was watching the beautiful mother nature besides capturing pictures and videos was must for the community I belong. Last night I wasn't able to sleep due to video editing for the below video post! A good editing software requires good amount of money and I can't spend that amount at the moment so, I was facing difficulties to edit the below video and finally I made it and learned new things!

Explorer!

I have asked to the local people about ‘since when’ the Flowers are blooming in the Lake and people down there said they’re watching them since their childhood! Many people down there are depending on the Flowers because, they actually cultivate them to sell them in the nearest bazar.

The best time to watch the Flowers is rainy season, from March it is star and is stay till November so you could say except the dry season you would find them blooming there. We went there during September and found lots of lilies.

The Beel

As the best option to watch the lilies is the early morning and of course before sunrise so it would be better if you could manage to stay in the village at the previous night! There are so many villagers who would be happy to host you for a night and you would be able to enjoy the village lifestyle and the food! I would recommend you if it is available please try to have duck meat and flower Roti!

"In the beel area we can only grow one rice crop per year,” explains Kailas Halder from Baghda village. “The rest of the year we rely on water lilies for daily income; and in the autumn season when the plants burst into flower and dramatically change the whole landscape, the beel is popular with tourists too.”Native fish species and carp as well as types of grass around the beel also contribute to local incomes, adds another villager, Bipul Halder. “Water lilies are a popular vegetable in the locality,” says Agailjhara's agriculture officer Nasiruddin. “They have some medicinal properties too, and can be useful in treating diseases including dysentery, calcium deficiency, skin conditions, urinary and liver infections, as well as diabetes.
”Water lilies serve as a sought-after ingredient for curries; while hildren in particular often enjoy eating the stem and fruit even while it is raw.
