In my wanderings through Splinterlands tournaments, I have found some very interesting, challenging and fun battles. Today's post is to show just one of those battles, where I faced and managed to win the most famous purple legendary card of all.

Exactly, QUORA TOWERSHEAD was defeated by me in a spurt of skill and opponent team formation prediction. Jokes aside, it was more luck than skill on this one, but anyway one thing is for sure, the skill DISPEL is what saves against such a powerful card.

If it is to highlight the unit that made this battle happen, it was definitely her: VENARI SPELLSMITH and her only ability that removes the positive effects that are on her opponents when they are hit by her attack.

image.png

Thanks to him, I managed to obtain such a surprising victory against a powerful team, which, by the way, let's say it was carried on the back of QUORA TOWERSHEAD, which had everything to work out if it wasn't clear, a VENARI SPELLSMITH in the middle of the path.

So the rules for this battle were:

BROKEN ARROWS, HEALED OUT and TIS BUT SCRATCHES, the latter, as it does not have a specific page on Splintercards, adds the skill CRIPPLE for all units, so with each hit, the damaged unit will lose 1 maximum health.

image.png

The elements available were: water, earth and life and a total of 19 mana points. Here the initial thought of strategy was to use the earth element and its magic attacks that hit life directly, so as this maximum life was decreasing, even with armor I could try to shoot down opponents that way.

Remembering that even if the physical attack hits the armor, the monster hit loses 1 maximum life point, so even if my physical attacks didn't cause direct damage, the magic damage would do the job of defeating the opponents.

So far so good, I just didn't count that when I selected my team and the battle started, I would be faced with this scenario:

image.png

It really was a big surprise, after all with the low amount of mana, I didn't expect such a risky composition, but well, there it is. My team was basically made to hold damage on the front end, give MADCAP MAGUS time to level up his health with his skill LIFE LEECH, while my rear units would apply the damage.

image.png

So at this beginning the nightmare has already started to happen when the opposing QUORA TOWERSHEAD defeated my first monster and received improvement in its attributes due to its ability BLOODLUST, so I was really worried that snowballing on top of her would happen.

image.png

In round number 2 I managed to defeat the first 2 monsters of my opponent, QUORA TOWERSHEAD applied 6 damage to my HILL GIANT, so I had 1 life, the dream of winning still stayed alive and so, the rest of my monsters applied their attacks, removed 1 maximum health and guess what, the DISPEL did its job!

image.png

Now, because of his ability SCATTERSHOT where his attacks become random, MADCAP MAGUS defeated BROWNIE, which was giving QUORA TOWERSHEAD +1 speed, although that wouldn't make much difference since all my monsters were at 1 speed, or that is, there was only slug in the team.

In this round, also, the DISPEL already took action and restarted the bonus that QUORA TOWERSHEAD conquered, although again it would defeat an ally monster and gain +1 to all its attributes, but, it was too late.

image.png

Finally, even gaining the attribute bonus, there was no way to recover the match and taking a total of 6 points of damage against his 5 life points, the match was over and victory guaranteed!

The replay with all the details can be seen HERE!

As much as it seems that everything was planned, it wasn't quite like that, just reinforcing, I thought of a strategy really following the idea of magical damage to directly hit the opponent's monsters' life and take advantage of the battle rule to decrease your maximum life .

So scaling VENARI SPELLSMITH was more about filling the mana space I had, and on top of that, the synergy with the summoner that grants +1 magic damage, that was by design.

I believe the biggest mistake was made by my opponent climbing QUORA TOWERSHEAD in a match where we had HEALED OUT and TIS BUT SCRATCHES, that is, there was no healing and the units would still lose their maximum health with each attack received.

In this way, the weight of the whole team rested on the shoulders of QUORA TOWERSHEAD, which has precisely the skill HEAL to give her more sustain, without that ability it was crazy to think she could hold so many focused attacks and even more with a DISPEL well surprised for him, he had nothing to do.

Thank you all so much and see you next time!
