Christmas is the Christian holiday which celebrates the Nativity, that is to say the birth of Jesus of Nazareth. The Christmas feast comes shortly after the winter solstice with which it is associated (see below). Dechristianization having done so, the feast of Christmas is today cut off from its religious basis in many Western countries, but it remains there as a traditional feast.
