MY LESSON - Hearing But Not Listening to God's Word (Part 1 of 2)

Hearing But Not Listening to God's Word (Part 1 of 2) | The Old Path

We are in a generation where people find it difficult to listen to God’s Word even while being in the congregation where a sermon is preached. Do you know why that happens? In this session Bro. Eli explicitly showed us that Satan, the enemy of God has blinded their eyes to discern when God speaks; this was seen in 2 Corinthians 4:4.

In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them. source

From the above scripture, the light of the glorious gospel which comes from God does not shine unto them because the god of this world (Satan) has blinded their eyes. Those who do not believe in the true work of God are automatically blinded by Satan, the enemy of God; so, we cannot expect those that are blinded by the devil to understand or listen to the word of God.

Certainly, we have clearly seen that there are people who hear the word of God but have difficulty in listening to it; such people similar seen as idol worshippers. According to Bro. Eli, the book of Psalm 115:4-8 made us understand that:

But their idols are silver and gold,
made by human hands. They have mouths, but cannot speak,
eyes, but cannot see. They have ears, but cannot hear,
noses, but cannot smell. They have hands, but cannot feel,
feet, but cannot walk, nor can they utter a sound with their throats. Those who make them will be like them, and so will all who trust in them. source

Men in our generation are likened to idols/ false gods. According to God’s word idols are seen to be beings that have all the body parts, yet they are not functioning, and it is likened to those that make these idols.
Our generation is a generation of idol worshippers, who have ears but cannot hear the word of God, eyes but can see that majestic power of God, etc. In the book of Acts 17:29

Forasmuch then as we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Godhead is like unto gold, or silver, or stone, graven by art and man's device.source

We ought not to think that Godhead/divinity/Theos is like unto graven images. Anyone who trust in those idols are like one who has ears but cannot hear, eyes but cannot see, etc (According Psalm 115). The reason they are liken to an idol is in 2 Corinthians 4:4 which was shared above – the enemy of God blinded their eyes.

Conclusion

This is why it is difficult for our generation to listen to the word of God because they are idolater or idol worshippers.
