“Punktronic Disco Dirge (Pirate Radio!) – Ep. 22” (NEW EPISODE!!!)

Trying to channel one of my favorite, old, SNL skits in which Dan Aykroyd plays a DJ programming on both the A.M. and F.M. bands! When he switches from the bubbly, high strung, upbeat guy moderating the A.M. band to the hippie, pot-smoking, F.M. station, he takes on this great, hissing low voice and talks like a stoner… It’s pretty funny… (Or it WAS funny back in the 1970s… Fuck….. I’m old…)

Now that I’ve made myself feel bad, it’s time to feel better, and the best tonic for that type of wound is TUNES! Ready to pirate it up with me??? Let’s GO!

Punktronic Disco Dirge – Ep. 22
Approx. 1 hour and 10 minutes

---Intro nonsense

---Ministry – “The Nature of Love” from Twelve Inch Singles (1987) (song originally released in 1985)
---Cheech & Chong – “Earache My Eye” from Cheech & Chong’s Greatest Hit (1981) (song originally released in 1974)
---The The – “Gravitate To Me” from Mind Bomb (1989)
---New Move – “When Did We Stop” from PDX Pop Now! 2016 (2016) (song originally released in 2015)
---Cab Calloway – “Reefer Man” from Best of the Big Bands (1990) (song originally released in 1934!)
---Jon Batiste – “Apex Wedge” from Soul (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) (2020)
---The Bad Plus – “Heart of Glass” from These are the Vistas (2003)
---Fugees – “Mista Mista” from The Score (1996)
---Custom – “Beat Me” from Fast (2002)
---Hithouse – “Jack to the Sound of the Underground” from Hithouse (1989)
---Holy Noise – “James Brown is Still Alive (Rap-Remix)” from Techno Trax Vol. 4 (1992) (song originally released in 1991)
---1991 – “Jungle Cats” from Drum&BassArena 2017 (2017)
---The Police – “Mother” from Syncronicity (1983)
---U2 – “Night and Day” from Red Hot + Blue – A Tribute to Cole Porter (1990)
---Alice Cooper – “Seven & Seven Is” from Special Forces (1981)
---Thomas Dolby – “Cruel” from Astronauts & Heretics (1992)

---Quickie reading of the list…

And that’s the whole shebang. Odd mood this time, but that’s okay. I’m happy with the movement, overall… (How often do you go from Cab Calloway big band swing to hardcore drum & bass in only seven songs?) If you LIKED any of these tunes, BUY ‘em! The artists (that are still with us) will appreciate it and maybe keep making with the magic! This program is intended for education / appreciation purposes only! I be only a scholarly pirate with no monetary treasure, just me vast knowledge of the ways of WAX… (Or vinyl, I guess…) Thanks for stopping by!

---Richard F. Yates (Holy DJ Fool)
