Basically you have to have very good knowledge of local culture, society and history if you understand Germans movies. The general perspective about the German Movies is that they are typically produced around the World War II or Nazi.
But today I would be happy if we can discuss about the German movies, cinema and web-series which are not focussed on the subject of World War or Nazi.
