Technology has revolutionalized and democratized learning and education therefore there's a need to make the upcoming generation to be acquainted with the use of technology in learning. Most African societies are yet to embrace this development brought about by technology. Most schools as well as students are still not conversant with the use of computers.
Knowing this, I have to take up the responsibility of ensuring that my children are introduced effectively to the use of computers.
Computer-based test otherwise known as CBT is an international standard for examinations globally. In Nigeria for example, some examination bodies are using the cbt to assess their students while some universities in the country are also using the cbt in their examinations. For this children to be able to face their contemporaries in the outside world, there's a need for them to be taught how to use the computer to administer examinations.
I enrolled about ten children teaching them for free. My main focus Is to show them how to sit for a CBT examination. First, I had to hire a tech guy who help to develop the app. One for the phone and the other for a computer system. From the app, I developed about sixty questions from 10 different academic fields.
This is the interface of the app, from it, you have a section to set questions, review and see the scores for each of the participants.
The advantage a computer based test over the manual paper test is that it saves time and reduces incidents of cheating. It's easy to mark and the result is out immediately the test ends.
These are the questions I set on social studies. At the end of the exams, they performed absolutely well.
My joy is that they were so happy to know to use the computer system to write exams.
I hope to do more of these things. It's a way of paying back to the community and the state.
